Abstract:
A one-step cleaning and water repellent treatment is provided. An alkaline-stable cleaning solution is mixed with an aqueous solution of alkali metal organosiliconates and applied to porous inorganic surfaces as a one-step cleaning and water repellent treatment. The mixture has been found to be stable and compatible. The one-step cleaning and water repellent treatment functions to simultaneously clean and protect porous inorganic surfaces and, thus, reduces the cost and time necessary to clean and protect such a surface.
Abstract:
A composition that may be used to retain moisture within fresh concrete as it cures to optimize the curing of the concrete may include one or more hardening and densifying agents and one or more temporary moisture sealing agents. Additionally such a composition may include a siliconate. The hardening and densifying agent of such a composition may penetrate the surface of fresh concrete to react with free lime, providing the fresh concrete with a strong surface. The temporary moisture sealing agent may form a moisture barrier on the surface of the fresh concrete to prevent moisture from escaping from the fresh concrete before the fresh concrete has sufficiently cured. The temporary moisture sealing agent may degrade within a matter of days, facilitating its removal from the surface of the concrete once the concrete has cured and enabling further treatment of the surface without undue delay.

Abstract:
Water-dispersible aqueous compositions comprise at least one solvated alkali-metal C 1 -C 4 hydrocarbyl siliconate and at least one solvated organosilicon component derived from an organosilicon compound. In example compositions, the organosilicon compound may comprise at least one silane, at least one phenylsilsesquioxane resin, or a mixture of at least one silane and at least one phenylsilsesquioxane resin. The organosilicon compound may comprise at least one hydrophobic group such as a phenyl group, an organic group with a carbon chain having more than three carbon atoms, or at least one fluoroalkyl group. Methods for forming the water-dispersible compositions comprise solvating the organosilicon compound in an aqueous solution containing at least one alkali-metal C 1 -C 4 hydrocarbyl siliconate. Further methods are disclosed for treating surfaces of substrates such as brick, masonry, concrete, and wood with the aqueous compositions to render the substrate surfaces hydrophobic and resistant to water and optionally oleophobic and resistant to oil.

A water-resistant gypsum fiber product comprising siloxane and coated with a coating comprising alkali metal organosiliconate is provided. A method of making a gypsum fiber product in which siloxane is cross-linked at the surface of the product is also provided. A fuel-efficient method for making the product and reducing the amount of siloxane dust released is provided as well.
Abstract:
Water-dispersible aqueous compositions comprise a solvated alkali-metal C 1 -C 4 hydrocarbyl siliconate, a solvated organosilicon component derived from an organosilicon compound, and an aminosilicon component derived from an aminosilane. The organosilicon compound may comprise at least one hydrophobic group such as a phenyl group, an organic group with a carbon chain having more than three carbon atoms, or at least one fluoroalkyl group. The aminosilicon component may comprise at least one amino-terminated hydrocarbon group. Methods for forming the water-dispersible compositions comprise solvating the organosilicon compound and the aminosilane in an aqueous solution containing at least one alkali-metal C 1 -C 4 hydrocarbyl siliconate. Substrates such as brick, masonry, concrete, and wood may be treated with the aqueous compositions to form a hydrophobic sealing layer on the substrate surface, resistant to staining and to permeation by water and optionally oleophobic and resistant to permeation by oil and oil based staining.
Abstract:
A water-based mixture of multi compounds was invented for the purposes of treating and providing an ultimate protection for large areas of concrete pavements against moisture and moisture-associated problems. The mixture preferably works from within the concrete as well as at the surface. A water-repelling function prevents water from penetrating the concrete matrix. A hygroscopic and hydrophilic behavior of its crystallization system within a concrete matrix minimizes moisture transmission through capillaries and connected voids. As a result, the mixture promises to provide a permanent treatment for moisture related problems, such as damage caused by repeated freeze and thaw cycles and chloride ion penetration as from deicing salts, as well as a permanent treatment for the so-called alkali-silica reactions.
