Abstract:
Abstract:
Ceramic coatings are made from nanoparticles to improve heat resistance and bonding to a substrate. Composite materials made by coating a substrate with the nanoparticle ceramic coatings are less susceptible to delamination as compared to existing coatings. The nanoparticle ceramic coatings include metal nanoparticles. The metal nanoparticles absorb heat and migrate to the surface of the ceramic coating during exposure to extreme heat, thereby removing heat from the ceramic coating. The inventive coatings are particularly heat resistant and can withstand extreme temperatures such as 4000 °F. The nanoparticle ceramic coatings are particularly useful for coating ceramic tiles used to protect spacecraft on reentry to the earth's atmosphere. The coatings can also be applied underneath the tiles of a spacecraft as a safety measure in case a tile is damaged or lost during a flight.
Abstract:
A method for coating a building product in which a coating formulation is provided which includes an hydraulic binder and a quantity of dewatering agent. A slurry is produced from said formulation and applied to the product to be coated. The resultant coating is then dewatered through said product. Dewatering can be accomplished with or without vacuum assistance. The method is suitable for producing a composite product which comprises a base structural layer with the coating thereon.
Abstract:
A terrazzo or terrazzo-like flooring system and method of producing such a flooring system is described in which either existing concrete floors or fresh concrete floors are treated by applying a primer coating to the concrete floor before applying a mixture containing at least a binder and an aggregate allowing the mixture to cure before grinding the cured mixture to produce a substantially uniform flat and smooth surface having a pleasing appearance wherein the uniformed surface has a thickness of less than about 40 mm. The flooring system of this invention allows flexibility in design including having multi-coloured areas of the seamless flooring to rejuvenate or decorate the concrete floors.
Abstract:
Concrete blocks which are provided with a conventional cement bound, sanded or water-jet blasted finish have a porous surface which tends to become soiled with dirt, moss or oil patches. The invention provides concrete blocks with a highly stable and substantially chemically-resistant finish resembling that of natural stone, whereby the surface thereof is not porous and is therefore not susceptible to soiling through dirt, oil patches and moss. The finish is inseparably bound to the concrete block, and is essentially made up of a reaction resin which is used as a polymer bonding agent, in addition to recycled glass which is used as a filler. A substantial part of the recycled glass is provided with a colored elastic polyvinylacetate coating, offering a huge design potential and permanent material bonding even at substantial fluctuations in temperature. Various methods make it possible to apply said surface finish before or after production of the concrete blocks. The inventive surface finished concrete blocks can be used, for example, as paving slabs for patios, courtyards or pathways, paving stones and composite stones, as lattices for lawns and eco stones, assembly units for swimming pools, steps and staircase elements, parapets for balconies, facing tiles, clinker stones and panels, wall elements, columns, bollards and palisades.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a coating composition and top coating composition, wherein the base coating composition consists of 5 to 35 wt.% of the white cement, 20 to 50 wt.% of the calcium carbonate, 5 to 35 wt.% of silicand, 5 to 35 wt.% of slag, 3 to 25 wt.% of the powdery redispersible resin, 0.05 to 0.3 wt.% of the thickener, and 0.1 to 0.5 wt.% of antifoaming agent; and the top coating agent consists of the silane derivative, colloidal silica and water soluble lower alcohol and water. The base composition consisting of the inorganic material except the redispersible resin shows the excellent binding strength and does not show the efflorescence phenomenon and peeling of the coating material from the surface of the tile or top coating composition consisting of silane derivative, colloidal silica, etc. shows the excellent binding strength and ventilating property after coating.

The coated pipes disclosed herein can be thermally insulated, impact and abrasion resistant, flexible pipeline that can be used in downhole steam injection operations and for extracting hydrocarbons.
Abstract:
A slurry comprises suspended aluminium particles in a colloid having dispersed colloidal particles of a metal oxide such as a hydroxide. The metal oxide is reducible by metallic aluminium. The slurry has such a basic pH that dissolution of the aluminium particles in the slurry is inhibited so that when the slurry is subjected to a heat treatment, the undissolved aluminium particles are reactable with the colloidal particles to form an aluminium-based mixture resistant to chemical attack made of aluminium oxide, metal aluminium and the metal of the colloidal particles. The slurry can be used to form an aluminium-based protective coating on a component, in particular of an aluminium electrowinning cell or an apparatus for treating molten aluminium.
