    摘要: A method for the separation of diamond particle clusters into discrete diamond particles and/or into smaller diamond particle clusters comprising fewer diamond particles is disclosed. The diamond particle clusters are combined with at least one liquid phase organic or inorganic compound, or with a solution of at least one organic or inorganic compound in at least one solvent to form a reaction mixture. Mechanical means are then used to separate the diamond particle clusters into discrete diamond particles and/or into smaller clusters within the reaction mixture producing diamond particles with dangling bonds or free bonding sites on the surface of the diamond particles. The at least one organic or inorganic compound then reacts with these dangling bonds present on the diamond particle surface. The surfaces of the diamond particles are functionalised by the reaction with the organic or inorganic compounds and the diamond particles and/or smaller clusters produced are well dispersed in dry powder form, as well as in solution.

    摘要: Methods for producing hydrocarbon oils from algal biomass are provided. The algal biomass is hydrogenolysed under reaction conditions sufficient to produce a partially deoxygenated lipid-based oil. The algal biomass may be whole algal biomass, residual algal biomass, or both. The algal biomass is hydrogenolysed by liquefying the algal biomass in the presence of a hydrogenolytic catalyst in a hydrogen atmosphere at an elevated temperature and pressure to produce an organic phase containing the partially deoxygenated lipid-based oil, an aqueous phase, and a solid phase. The aqueous and solid phases may be removed from the partially deoxygenated lipid-based oil. The partially deoxygenated lipid-based oil is then substantially deoxygenated using a hydroprocessing catalyst to produce the hydrocarbon oil.

    摘要: Novel fluid mixtures of specified hydrocarbons meeting an array of structural criteria are described. Linear hydrocarbons having terminal double bonds and internal segments of specified differing chain lengths separated by one or more carbon atom(s) each of which has a methylidene substituent make up one group of such compounds. Another group is alkenyl end-capped compounds of the first group. Third and fourth groups are products formed by hydrogenation of the first and second groups, respectively. The products, whether end-capped or not, and whether hydrogenated or not, have desirable lubricating properties such as suitable low pour points and/or low NOACK volatility and/or very high viscosity index and thus can be used as base oils or as components in formulating lubricants.
