A copolymer of 1 -butene and at least a C 8 -C 12 alpha-olefin derived units, having a content of C 8 - C 12 alpha-olefin derived units equal to or higher than 7.2% and lower than 20.0% by mole; endowed with the following features: a) no detectable melting point TmII as the highest melting peak in the second melting transition; b) intrinsic viscosity (IV) measured in tetraline at 135°C comprised between 0.8 and 5.0 dL/g; c) isotactic pentad mmmm higher than or equal to 90 %; pentads (mmrr+mrrm) lower than 4 and pentad rmmr not detectable at 13 C NMR; d) the tensile modulus (TM) measured with DMTA in MPa and the comonomer content fulfill the following relationship: TM 8 -C 12 alpha-olefin derived units; e) the tension set at 100% of deformation is lower than 55 %; and f) the melting point measured by DSC (TmI) and the C 8 -C 12 alpha-olefin content fulfill the following relationship: TmI 8 -C 12 alpha-olefin derived units and TmI is the highest melting peak in the first melting transition; otherwise the melting point TmI is not detectable by DSC.

A supported olefin polymerization catalyst system and a method of making it are disclosed. The catalyst system comprises: (a) a support having mean particle size less than about 30 microns chemically treated with alumoxane; (b) an organometallic complex comprising a Group 3 to 10 transition or lanthanide metal, M, and at least one indenoindolyl ligand that is π-bonded to M; and (c) an activator. Chemical treatment with alumoxane and support mean particle size less than 30 microns are key to making supported indenoindolyl containing catalysts having high activity.

The present invention provides a method of synthesizing fluorided metallocene catalyst components comprising contacting at least one fluoriding agent comprising fluorine with one or more alkylated metallocene catalyst components comprising one or more non-halogen leaving groups to produce a fluorided catalyst component; wherein from less than 3 equivalents of fluorine are contacted for every equivalent of leaving group. The method of the invention is exemplified by the following reaction which takes place in a non-coordinating diluent such as pentane: Formula (I), wherein one or both of the "Cp" rings may be substituted with an R group as described herein, and may be bridged. The reaction can be run at any desirable temperature, desirably between 10°C and 35°C. The reaction product of the BF 3 and dimethyl zirconocene is the fluorided zirconocene. The mole ratio of the BF 3 fluoriding agent and the starting metallocene is less than 2:1 (fluoriding agent:metallocene) in one embodiment, and less than or equal to 1.6:1 in a particular embodiment, and less than or equal to 1.5:1 in a more particular embodiment, and less than or equal to 1.2:1 in yet a more particular embodiment.

Catalyst systems useful for olefin polymerization are disclosed. The catalysts include a bimetallic complex that incorporates two linked indenoindolyl groups, each of which is pibonded through its cyclopentadienyl ring to one of the metals. Compared with conventional indenoindolyl complexes, the bimetallic complexes of the invention have enhanced ability to give polyolefins with desirably low melt indices. Certain bimetallic indenoindolyl complexes also provide a way to broaden polymer molecular weight distribution and thereby improve processability simply by regulating the amounts of comonomer and activator used in the polymerization.

An amine-elimination process for making single-site catalysts is disclosed. First, an indenoindole or its synthetic equivalent reacts with a tetrakis(dialkylamino) Group 4 metal compound to give a tris(dialkylamino) compound. This versatile intermediate can be halogenated, alkylated, or reacted directly with cyclopentadienyl precursors to provide valuable indenoindolyl-Group 4 metal complexes. The process selectively provides mono-indenoindolyl complexes. In addition, it enables the economical preparation of desirable Cp- or Cp-like derivatives and allows the use of an inexpensive Group 4 transition metal source

Organometallic complexes having a phosphinimine ligand, a (non-phosphinimine) heteroligand and at least one activatable ligand are catalyst components for olefin polymerization. Preferred polymerization systems are prepared by combining the organometallic complexes with an ionic activator and/or an alumoxane. Preferred catalyst components contain Ti, Zr or Hf and are activated with an ionic activator to provide ethylene polymerization catalysts.
