Compositions containing the copolymers, and methods of making the copolymers are also disclosed. The compositions can also contain for example an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) and/or electrical conducting additives. The compositions can, for example, be used for detecting lead ions in a sample.

The present invention relates to a multiblock copolymer, a preparation method thereof, and an electrolyte membrane using the same. The multiblock copolymer according to the invention comprises a plurality of hydrophilic blocks and a plurality of hydrophobic blocks which are respectively represented by chemical formulas 1 and 2, and is treated with acids. Therefore, the multiblock copolymer can be used in an electrolyte membrane and a fuel cell. When the multiblock copolymer is used as an electrolyte membrane, dimensional stability is improved.

New proton conducting membranes are made of sulfonated poly(arylene sulfide) polymers (SPAS) and a perfluorosulfonic acid polymer. A preferred poly(arylene sulfide) polymer is poly(p-phenylene sulfide). The membranes are used as a proton exchange membrane in PEM fuel cells operating at temperatures above 6O 0 C, or at low relative humidity. According to methods of the invention, sulfonated poly(phenylene sulfide) (SPPS) films may be provided with a wide range of physical properties, which depend in part on the ion exchange capacity of the films. In particular, the degree or level of sulfonation can be tailored by adjusting reaction conditions such as temperature and time. In a preferred embodiment, an ionomer comprising perfluorosulfonic acid polymer is imbibed into the insoluble SPAS films by immersing the films in a solution or dispersion of the ionomers.
