A needled, non-woven having a first zone extending from an upper surface to an inner plane and a second zone extending from the inner plane to a lower surface. The first zone comprises a plurality of first core/sheath fibers, a plurality of second fibers, and a plurality of third fibers, The second polymer forming the second fibers and the sheath polymer forming the sheath of the first core/sheath fibers have a critical surface energy less than 40 mN/m. The second zone comprises a plurality of fourth fibers and a plurality of fifth fibers. A portion of the first core/sheath fibers, second fibers, and third fibers from the first zone are physically entangled into the fourth fibers and fifth fibers in the second zone. A consolidated needled non-woven and method for making the needled non-woven and consolidated needled non-woven are also disclosed.

A nonwoven web having an advantageous bond pattern impressed by a bonding pattern on a roller is disclosed. The bonding pattern is selected to have a bonding area percentage from 6 to 14 percent, which provides a desirable level of bonding of filaments and/or fibers for mechanical strength, while retaining desirable pliability and/or liquid handling characteristics. The bonding area is also relatively highly dispersed, which provides for a relatively greater number of bonded areas for the selected bonding area percentage. The greater number of bonded areas is believed to provide improved structural integrity while still retaining pliability and/or liquid handling characteristics, and also provide for enhanced visual detail and complexity. The relatively highly dispersed bonding area is believed to be particularly effective for nonwoven web materials having three or more layers, with outer layers of polymeric filaments, and even more particularly, one or two outer layers of fine filaments.

A nonwoven wipe has multiplicity of fibers, bonded portions, and unbonded portions. The bonded portions are spaced apart from one another, each bonded portion comprises portions of the fibers that are bonded together, and each bonded portion has a thickness extending perpendicularly between opposite faces of the nonwoven wipe. Each unbonded portion comprises portions of the fibers that are not bonded together, and each unbonded portion has a thickness extending perpendicularly between the opposite faces of the nonwoven wipe. The thicknesses of the unbonded portions is greater than the thicknesses of the bonded portions. The bonded portions are sized and arranged for providing a desirable balance of properties.
