In general, the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in methods, systems, and program products for providing search results automatically to a user of a computing device. A spoken input provided by a user to a computing device is received. The spoken input is transmitted to a computer server system that is remote from the computing device. Search result information that is responsive to the spoken input is receiving by the computing device and in response to the transmitted spoken input. An alert is provided to the user that the device will connect the user to a target of the search result information if the user does not intervene to stop the connecting of the user. The user is connected to the target of the search result information based on a determination that the user has not intervened to stop the connecting of the user.

Community Messaging Service (CMS) is a system and method for operators in developing countries to provide a messaging service to subscribers who cannot yet afford a wireless telephone or personal landline service or for which such infrastructure is not readily available, but have the basic requirement to communicate with each other. CMS makes it possible for callers to leave messages for people who would otherwise be unreachable and allow subscribers to reply back to those callers. More specifically, CMS involves the use of a pre-paid account to allow callers without telephones to have a non- gsm telephone number that can be used for communication via voicemail over a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).

A method for providing directory assistance includes receiving a communication from a requester for a business listing and retrieving at least one first listing in response. At least one signal indicative of the status of the listing retrieved is received, and if negative, such status is conveyed to the requester. A second option is then offered to the requester, where the second option offered to the requester is for a second listing related to a same category of business as the first listing.

A method and system for initiating a connection between at least a first communication device and a second communication device respective of a first party and a second party. According to the present invention initiating a connection includes obtaining a destination subscriber identifier from the first party, wherein the destination subscriber identifier is a string including at least one character different than a numeric character and is respective of the second party. Then, a resolution request that includes data indicative of the destination subscriber identifier is conveyed to a hosting information storage server respective of the destination subscriber identifier, a resolution response including a destination address respective of the second communication device wherein the second party is available is obtained, and then, the present invention includes initiating a connection between the first communication device and the second communication device.

In order to allow a communication directory provider, offering a web-based search in a communication directory (KV), regardless of whether or not the provider at the same time is also the communication service provider for a communication service user, based on a search result from the web-based search in the directory (KV) to automatically provide the searching individual with data that is required for establishing a communication connection (KVB) to another subscriber in a line and/or packet-switched communication network (LVKN, PVKN), a home network (HNW) is connected via a communication device (KG, PC), on which a web client (WCL) is available, and at least one communication terminal (KEE, SLT), which has at least one telephone functionality, to a communication directory server (KVS) in the packet-switched communication network (PVKN) and each communication terminal (KEE, SLT) is registered with the server, wherein each communication terminal transmits a port number (PNR) and an IP address (IPA) to the server. After the user of the home network (KNW) via the communication device (KG, PC) has triggered a search in the communication directory (KV) of the server and a search result (MSER) has been marked from the at least one search result provided by the server (SER), the communication terminal (KEE, SLT) receives network address information (NAI) sent by the server and present in the marked search result (MSER) and, directly after receipt or with delay following receipt and intermediate storage of the network address information (NAI), the communication connection (KVB) to a network subscriber corresponding to the network address information is established.

In broad terms, this invention provides a call processing system and method that allows a user to dial a single telephone number so that, by using speech recognition technology, the caller may be put through automatically to the desired company or organization. In a first embodiment, a telephone call processing system comprises a receiver module to receive a telephone call from a caller, a speech recognition engine to receive and recognize a speech utterance from the caller, a database table comprising telephone numbers and associated recognized or recognizable speech utterances, a dialing module to place an outbound call using one of the telephone numbers in the database table, and a processor to functionally connect the components so that upon recognizing the speech utterance and retrieving the telephone number associated with the speech utterance, the processor can connect the caller to the person or entity associated with the retrieved telephone number via the dialing module.
