Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system and method for detecting the proximity of a needle to an ultrasound probe. The system can include an ultrasound system having a probe, including a body and a magnetic sensor, the magnetic sensor capable of detecting a magnetic field generated by or associated with the needle. The system can also include logic stored on non- transitory computer-readable medium that, when executed by one or more processors, causes performance of operations which can include: receiving an indication that the magnetic field has been detected including a strength of the magnetic field, determining a distance between a distal tip of the needle and the probe based on the strength of the magnetic field, and in response to the distance being within a first threshold, generating a first alert. The ultrasound system can further include a console apparatus communicatively coupled to the probe that includes the non-transitory computer-readable medium.

Abstract: We describe an imaging device for measuring a profile of an object. The device includes a plurality of moveable parts, where each moveable part has a first end to contact an object and a second end comprising fluorescent or phosphorescent material. The device further includes an enclosure to hold the moveable parts such that the moveable parts can move parallel to each other within the enclosure to vary their respective positions according to a profile of the contacted object. The device further comprises a light source to stimulate light emission from the material and a camera configured to obtain an image of the second ends of the moveable parts based on the light emission.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for monitoring respiration of a patient (100) during movement and motion, wherein: - providing a respiration monitoring device (10) comprising at least one sensor unit (14) including at least one flex sensor (12) and a measuring unit (16) coupled to the sensor unit (14), - placing the respiration monitoring device (10) on the patient (100) in such a way that attaching one unit (14, 16) of the respiration monitoring device (10) to the chest (110) of the patient (100) and attaching the other unit (16, 14) to the abdominal wall (120) of the patient (100), - using the respiration monitoring device (10), detecting the relative displacement of the patient's (100) chest (110) and abdominal wall (120) during respiration by measuring the electrical signal provided by the at least one flex sensor (12) that is deflected during respiration, and - determining respiration rate from the detected relative displacements of the chest (110) and abdominal wall (120). The invention also relates to a respiration monitoring device (10) for carrying out a method according to the invention.

Abstract: A system for assessing laxity of a joint of a patient is disclosed. The system comprises a tensioner tool having a substantially rigid portion that may be inserted within the joint to apply a force against a bone surface thereof. The system further comprises a tensioner sock having a flexible body with an opening to receive the tensioner tool and a sensor array disposed on the flexible body. Each sensor of the sensor array is configured to contact the bone surface and detect a pressure when the force is applied against the bone surface. The system further comprises a processor configured to receive the detected pressure from each sensor and calculate the force applied to the bone surface based on the detected pressures.

Abstract: Fault detection and diagnostics for a microneedle array based continuous analyte monitoring device are provided. The electrochemical sensors, including the electrodes of the analyte monitoring device configured for measuring one or more target analytes, may experience various faults during use of the analyte monitoring device. By modeling the sensors as an electrical network, measurements of the electrical network may be correlated with operational parameters of the sensor. The voltage at the counter electrode provides an indication of the resistance or impedance between the working electrode and the counter electrode and is used to identify the occurrence of faults occurring at the continuous analyte monitoring device.
