A coating composition for metal or refractories includes a polysilazane resin; and one or more additives that alter the thermal conductivity and/or the abrasion resistance of the cured polysilazane resin. The coating composition may be applied to a metal or refractory material substrate and heated to form a ceramic layer on the substrate. The ceramic layer exhibits lower thermal conductivity and increased abrasion resistance.

A method for partially coating open cell porous material is provided. The method generally comprises the initial step of providing a block or body of open cell porous material made from a first material having a first melting temperature. A thin sheet of a second material, having a second melting temperature lower than the first melting temperature, is then disposed on one or more of the exterior surfaces of the open cell porous block. The block and the sheet are then placed in an oven or a retort at generally the second melting temperature. By capillarity, the molten second material will spread throughout the open cell porous block and generally concentrates itself in the regions where adjacent particles of the first material have previously partially bonded.

The invention relates to a new material that makes it possible to encompass any type of surface finishing and that is characterized in that it provides both the base enamel and the decoration for the decoration of ceramic products. The composition of the sheet comprises mixtures of frits and natural and/or synthetic raw materials, the size of the particles being controlled, in addition to the additives required to obtain appropriate forming of the sheet. The invention also relates to the production method of the sheet. The inventive sheets are used to decorate and/or enamel ceramic objects that undergo temperatures ranging between 1,000-1,250 DEG C during production.

Disclosed is a polycrystalline diamond or diamond-like element with greatly improved wear resistance without loss of impact strength. These elements are formed with a binder-catalyzing material in a high-temperature, high-pressure (HTHP) process. The PCD element has a body with a plurality of bonded diamond or diamond-like crystals forming a continuous diamond matrix that has a diamond volume density greater than 85 %. Interstices among the diamond crystals form a continuous interstitial matrix containing a catalyzing material. The diamond matrix table is formed and integrally bonded with a metallic substrate containing the catalyzing material during the HTHP process. The diamond matrix body has a working surface, where a portion of the interstitial matrix in the body adjacent to the working surface is substantially free of the catalyzing material, and the remaining interstitial matrix contains the catalyzing material. Typically, less than about 70 % of the body of the diamond matrix table is free of the catalyzing material.
