A media-guiding system includes a media-guiding roller having a roller axis and an exterior surface having one or more grooves formed around the exterior surface. A media travels along a transport path past the media-guiding roller with a first side of the media facing the exterior surface of the web-guiding roller. An air source provides an air flow into one or more of the grooves, the air flow being directed between the first side of the media and the exterior surface of the media-guiding roller thereby producing a Bernoulli force to draw the media toward the exterior surface of the media-guiding roller and providing an increased traction between the media and the media-guiding roller.

A dunnage conversion machine (10) and corresponding method for converting a supply of sheet stock material into a relatively less dense dunnage product includes a conversion assembly (20) that converts sheet stock material into a dunnage product, and a tension-adjusting assembly (26) having a sequence of transversely extending members (28) disposed upstream of the conversion assembly (20). The transversely extending members (28) engage the stock material and help to prevent or to minimize excessive edge tension and/or the tearing associated therewith, while maintaining sufficient tension for proper tracking, especially for the conversion of single ply, lesser quality and/or short fiber paper, and/or otherwise improves or enhances the conversion process. The transversely extending members (28) are generally aligned end-to-end, and define a path for the stock material from a supply thereof, via a stock supply assembly (15) to the conversion assembly (20).

The invention relates to rolls (20) for use in spreading webs (F) and minimizing the formation of wrinkles therein. The roll (20) has a diameter in its central region (20c, 30c) that is greater than the diameter proximate its end portions (20e, 30e). The diameter can taper straight from the central portion (20c, 30c) to the ends (20e, 30e), can utilize a combination of a parabolic shape and straight taper, or other profile variations.

The present disclosure describes a spreader roll (101) that can help spread webs laterally in a web processing operation, in particular to reduce or remove the presence of wrinkles or bagginess in the web. The spreader roll can be a reverse crown roll that is covered with a resilient material (160) to assist spreading the web to remove wrinkles. The surface curvature of the spreader roll (101) can be formed using layers of material such as a tape, to easily and readily approximate the shape of a reverse crown roll.

Bevorzugt ist der Aussenmantel im Bereich seiner beiden Enden jeweils durch einen ebenfalls innerhalb des Aussenmantels angeordneten Aktuator (30) verstellbar.

The present invention relates to an apparatus for guiding a web of packaging material, comprising a groove (11) extending along the direction of transport of the web, in which groove one longitudinal edge of the web is intended to run during advancement of the web. The apparatus further includes an aperture in the wall of the groove (11) for applying a partial vacuum for the removal of air and dust from the groove (11) and its ambient surroundings. Further, the present invention relates to a method of removing dust.
