Abstract:
Abstract:
A gauge is provided for monitoring pressure of air or other gases within a tire or other gas containing chamber. A gauge includes a receiver attachable to a valve stem of the tire. A valve core is also provided on the gauge through which fill air can be directed. In this way, the gauge does not need to be removed during filling of the tire with air. A pathway extends from the valve core to the receiver within the gauge. A pressure sensor, such as a Bourdon tube, is coupled to this pathway and monitors pressure within the tire. A sensor protector is located within the path and adjacent the Bourdon tube or other pressure sensor to protect the Bourdon tube or other pressure sensor from over-pressure air or other gases that could damage the Bourdon tube or other pressure sensor.
Abstract:
A pressure gauge is provided for monitoring pressure within a reservoir, such as air within a vehicle tire. The gauge is particularly configured to allow it to remain upon a valve stem of the tire even when the tire is in operation. A receiver of the gauge can be coupled to the valve stem. A valve core is preferably provided through which air can pass from a compressed air source, so that the tire can be filled without removing the gauge. A Bourdon tube is located within a sensor chamber and measures pressure within the reservoir. A shroud or other support surface is located adjacent a central opening of the Bourdon tube so that the Bourdon tube is supported sufficiently to avoid damage from forces including centrifugal forces encountered when the tire is spinning and the gauge is mounted on the valve stem of the tire.
Abstract:
A biocompatible, mechanical, micromachined pressure sensor and methods of manufacturing such a pressure sensor are provided. The pressure sensor of the current invention comprises a high-aspect-ratio curved-tube structure fabricated through a one-layer parylene process. The pressure sensor of the current invention requires zero power consumption and indicates the pressure variation by changes of the in situ in-plane motion of the sensor, which can be gauged externally by a direct and convenient optical observation. In one embodiment, the pressure sensor of the current invention has been shown to work as an IOP sensor for eye implantation where the intraocular in-plane motion of the sensor can be recorded from outside of the eye, such that the intraocular pressure in glaucoma patients can be constantly monitored.
Abstract:
An apparatus for measuring a physical quantity or parameter includes a housing having a supportably mounted shaft member. A first end of the shaft member is placed in proximity with the output of a displacement device which is responsive to a change in the physical quantity. A ribbon spring member is coaxially disposed and wound helically about the supported shaft member, one end of the spring member being attached to the shaft and a remaining end to a supporting structure. Based on a change in the physical quantity, (pressure, velocity, temperature, etc.), the output of the displacement device engages the shaft member, which axially displaces and rotates due to the constraint of the ribbon spring member. The rotation of the shaft member produces a corresponding angular deflection of an attached pointer relative to readable indicia.

Abstract:
A method for monitoring air pressure in a kite when kite boarding is described. The method involves a first step of connecting an air pressure sensor to one or more bladders of the kite. The method involves a second step of positioning a visual display for the air pressure sensor where it will be visible to a user conducting a visual inspection of the kite to display a pressure reading as sensed by the pressure sensor.
