A process for producing pure lactic acid from a whey by-product rich in lactose and minerals, for example delactosed why permeate or concentrated whey permeate, is described. The method comprises upstream steps of neutralising the whey by-product with a basic metal hydroxide to form a precipitate comprising calcium and phosphate, and separating the precipitate from the whey by-product to provide a clarified whey by-product. The clarified whey by-product is fermentated by a bacterium capable of bioconversion of lactose to lactic acid to provide a fermentation broth containing a lactic acid salt. In the downstream steps, the fermentation broth is acidified to release lactic acid from the lactic acid salt, precipitate from the broth produced by acidification is removed, and the acidified fermentation broth is treated to recover pure lactic acid by removal of residual salts, and water, and optionally protein. The process of the invention produces lactic acid having a purity of 80-98% and an isomeric purity of >98% L-lactic acid using a process that employs upstream removal of divalent salts by chemical precipitation, bacterial fermentation of the demineralised substrate, and minimum downstream processing of the fermentation broth. The methods of the invention may also be employed with milk permeates.

Embodiments of this application provide a data transmission method and apparatus. The data transmission method is applied to a network based on a CSMA/CA mechanism and the network includes a plurality of nodes that share one channel. According to the data transmission method, a sending node determines, in the plurality of nodes through a first clear channel assessment, that the channel is idle. The sending node then waits for a delay duration, and performs a second clear channel assessment on the channel after the delay duration. The sending node sends a data frame to a receiving node in the plurality of nodes through the channel in response to determining, through the second clear channel assessment, that the channel is idle. The sending node performs a clear channel assessment twice before sending a data frame, which reflects priorities of different types of data frames and shortens a network latency.

A method for analyzing relationships between clusters of devices includes selecting a first device from a first cluster of devices and selecting a second device from a second cluster of devices. Information related to a first communication link associated with the first device and information related to a second communication link associated with the second device is obtained. A similarity metric is computed based on the obtained information. The similarity metric represents a similarity between the first communication link and the second communication link associated with the second device. A relationship between the first and second clusters is determined using the computed similarity metric. When a cyberattack is detected on the devices in the first cluster or the second cluster, protection of all devices in the first cluster and the second cluster is modified based on the determined relationship in order to defend the respective clusters from the cyberattack.

Described systems and methods enable a swift and efficient detection of fraudulent Internet domains, i.e., domains used to host or distribute fraudulent electronic documents such as fraudulent webpages and electronic messages. Some embodiments use a reverse IP analysis to select a set of fraud candidates from among a set of domains hosted at the same IP address as a known fraudulent domain. The candidate set is further filtered according to domain registration data. Online content hosted at each filtered candidate domain is further analyzed to identify truly fraudulent domains. A security module may then prevent users from accessing a content of such domains.

Implementations provide automated intrusion alert-based blacklisting with minimal false positives that ignores regular business operations, scalable to accommodate the volume of IDS alerts received by high-traffic internet-accessible networked systems. Implementations identify and block hostile infrastructure IP addresses during the reconnaissance phase based on IDS alert(s). Each IDS alert is automatically reviewed in historical context and triggers IP blocking as necessary. Some implementations maintain TCP/IP handshake records, preventing blocking an IP used to conduct regular business operations on the network that a malicious party has spoofed to avoid identification. Based on the historical context of each IP address within the local network environment, specifically regular business operations traffic versus malicious traffic, the IP address is blocked only if the majority of connections therefrom are malicious. This approach provides substantial cost-savings; frees up resources and personnel otherwise necessary for manual processes; and increases overall network security through automated network defense.

A secure communication network includes interconnected switches including a source switch, a destination switch, and an intermediate switch. Packets are transferred over the secure communication network from a start node to an end node. The source switch replaces an original payload of each packet with an encrypted payload that combines the original payload and a respective random pad for the packet. The source switch then discards the respective random pad. The source and intermediate switches forward each packet toward the destination switch. The destination switch replaces the encrypted payload of each packet with a decrypted payload, which combines the encrypted payload and the respective random pad so as to match the original payload, discards the respective random pad, and transmits the packet with the decrypted payload to the end node. A controller sends the respective random pad for each packet to the source and destination switches via secure management links.

In an edge computing system, an edge computing device includes hardware resources that can be composed from a configuration of chiplets, as the chiplets are disaggregated for selective use and deployment (for compute, acceleration, memory, storage, or other resources). In an example, configuration operations are performed to: identify a condition for use of the hardware resource, based on an edge computing workload received at the edge computing device; obtain, determine, or identify properties of a configuration for the hardware resource that are available to be implemented with the chiplets, with the configuration enabling the hardware resource to satisfy the condition for use of the hardware resource; and compose the chiplets into the configuration, according to the properties of the configuration, to enable the use of the hardware resource for the edge computing workload.

Visibility of relevance of detailed configurations is improved while deterioration of the visibility of a general configuration between nodes is suppressed. A node coordinate calculation process calculates, upon calculation of deployment coordinates of each node, a degree of importance of an infrastructure resource and a degree of importance of an application, and weights the distance between the application node and the infrastructure node with the reciprocal of the degree of importance of the infrastructure node. Then, the node coordinate calculation process determines deployment of the application node such that the application node is deployed in the proximity of a comparatively important infrastructure node, and determines deployment of the application node on the basis of the degrees of importance of the applications such that a comparatively important application is deployed closely to the infrastructure node.

Disclosed are methods for detecting misconfigured VLANs. In some embodiments, traffic on a VLAN across multiple access points is categorized. Traffic on the VLAN at a single access point is then also categorized. The categorization of the VLAN traffic at the single access point can be in response to, for example, communication errors or other conditions. The two categorizations are then compared to determine if the VLAN traffic at the AP is consistent with the VLAN traffic across a network (e.g., an enterprise network). If the VLAN traffic at the AP is generally consistent with that across the network, this may indicate that a downstream network component, such as a switch or router, is misconfigured. Thus, some embodiments programmatically reconfigure the downstream component to forward traffic for the VLAN.

The present invention provides a configuration of a novel optical transmitter which outputs stable PDM signals. The novel optical transmitter generates phase conjugate light using a single second-order non-linear optical element included in a phase conjugate light generator with a looped configuration. Various embodiments disclosed herein provide for a reciprocity based channel state information acquisition scheme for frequency division duplex wireless communications systems. By converting channel state information from a traditional frequency-time domain to a Delay-Doppler domain, the channel state information feedback overhead can be reduced since the multi-path of radio propagation is reciprocal in terms of each ray and each cluster of antenna elements. Since the surrounding objects create the same multipath fading for both uplink and downlink transmissions, modeling the channel state information in the Delay-Doppler domain, and adjusting the sign of the Doppler value (negative/positive) can account for the multipath characteristics in both uplink and downlink.
