    is a 6-membered unsaturated ring, X 2 is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a halo(lower)alkoxy group, Y 2 is a hydrogen atom or combined with Y, to form a direct single bond, n is an integer of 1 or 2 and X is an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, a carbonyl group or a group of the formula: -C(R 3 ) (R 4 )- (in which R 3 and R4 are each a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group));
    Y, is a hydrogen atom or combined with Y 2 to form a direct single bond;
    R, and R 2 are each a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group;

    worin R 11 Wasserstoff, Acyl oder tri(niederes Alkyl)silyl, R 2 eine in der o- und/oder p-Stellung durch Halogen, niederes Alkyl, niederes Alkytthio oder niederes Alkoxy substituierte Phenylgruppe und n die Zahl 0 oder 2 bedeuten, urid Mischungen davon mit den entsprechenden optischen Antipoden sind wertvolle Zwischenprodukte zur Herstellung von antimikrobiell wirksamen Penemen und Carbapenemen, welche als gemeinsames Strukturelement eine (R)- 1 -Hydroxyäthylgruppe in der 6-Stellung besitzen. Sie können hergestellt werden, indem man eine Verbindung der Formel
    worin R12 Acyl, tri(niederes Alkyl)silyl oder eine Gruppe der Formel -BR3R4 und R3 und R 4 die gleiche Bedeutung besitzen und je einen verzweigt-offenkettigen, cyclischen oder bicyclischen Kohlenwasserstoffrest mit 5-10 Kohlenstoffatomen oder zusammen einen offenkettigen oder cyclischen Kohlenwasserstoffrest mit 5-10 Kohlenstoffatomen und zwei freien Valenzen bedeuten und R 2 obige Bedeutung besitzt, oder eine Mischung davon mit dem entsprechenden optischen Antipoden mit Chlorsulfonylisocyanat umsetzt und erwünschtenfalls eine erhaltene Verbindung der obigen Formel I, worin n die Zahl 0 bedeutet, S-oxidiert und vorgängig oder anschliessend eine allfällig vorhandene Acyl- oder tri(niedere Alkyl)silylgruppe abspaltet.
