The invention relates to a multi-layer, expandable sleeve (100) for a printing press cylinder, particularly for flexographic printing. The sleeve has an inner layer (110) with a hard surface inner jacket (112), which defines a longitudinal axis (A) and the cavity for mounting on the cylinder, and an outer layer (130) with a cylindrical outer jacket (132) for carrying an outer shell, a printing plate or a separate outer sleeve, in particular. An intermediate layer (120), manufactured in the form of a lightweight honeycomb having honeycomb cells oriented radially (B) to the longitudinal axis (A), is provided between the inner jacket (112) and the outer jacket (132). According to the invention, the intermediate layer (120) comprises at least one honeycomb layer (122-1, 122-2, 122-3, 122-4, 122-5) consisting of shaped cured fibre composite honeycomb made of fibre material embedded in a resin matrix. This intermediate layer (120) in itself makes the essential contribution to the inner jacket (112) being able to expand radially away from the longitudinal axis (A) for mounting the sleeve (100) on the cylinder.

The invention relates to a method for producing flat, hydrophilic, aliphatic polyurethane foams. The invention also relates to a flat, hydrophilic, aliphatic polyurethane foam obtained according to said method and to the use thereof as a wound dressing, incontinence product or cosmetic article. According to the invention, a prepolymer-component and a carbonic acid or carboxylate component containing water is produced, said components are combined and mixed, and the obtained mixture is applied to a flat substrate as a layer which has an even thickness. Directly after application, a perforated separation element is applied in a flat manner to the layer. Said applied layer then expands with the applied perforated separation element to form the flat polyurethane foam.

The method comprises: forming a low density fibrous web to act as a porous bulk absorber, the fibrous web containing a proportion of bi-component fibres, each bi-component fibre having a core material and a sheath material around the core material, the sheath material having a lower melting point than the core material; applying a thin facing layer to the low density fibrous web, wherein the facing layer is adhesively compatible with the sheath material; heating the fibrous web to a temperature sufficient to soften the sheath material of at least some of the bi-component fibres; and pressing the facing layer and fibrous web together under low pressure such that at least part of the facing layer contacts the softened sheath material of at least some of the bi-component fibres to form an adhesive bond between the facing layer and the fibrous web.
