    摘要: A pixel based on a pinned-photodiode structure that creates a lateral electric drift field. The combination of the photodiode with adjacent CCD gates enables the utilization of the drift field device in applications such as 3-D imaging. Compared with recently used demodulation devices in CCD or CMOS technology, the new pinned-photodiode based drift field pixel has its advantages in its wide independence of the quantum efficiency on the optical wavelength, its high optical sensitivity, the opportunity of easily creating arbitrary potential distributions in the semiconductor, the straight-forward routing capabilities and the generation of perfectly linear potential distributions in the semiconductor.

    摘要: The demodulator by direct frequency conversion comprises a vector addition device having: a first circuit (1) that furnishes, starting from a first AC signal (LO), a respective AC signal to n outputs that are not all of the same amplitude and of the same frequency, but are out of phase with regard to one another in such a manner that each one is not either in phase nor in opposite phase with any other; a second circuit (2) that splits a second AC signal (RFin) toward n outputs; a number n of summers (3a, 3b, 3c) each receiving, at the input, a respective output of the first circuit (1) and a respective output of the second circuit (2), and; a respective power sensor (4a, 4b, 4c) for each summer, whereby the number n is greater than or equal to 3. The demodulator also comprises digital processing means (5, 6) that furnish the result of the demodulation.

    摘要: A method and system for improving sensitivity of microwave and millimeter phase discriminators is disclosed. An exemplary embodiment of a phase discriminator includes two mixers inserted between two 90-degree hybrids. One hybrid splits the reference or LO signals into two signals of equal magnitude with a phase difference of 90 degrees. Similarly, the other hybrid splits the received RF signal into equal signals shifted 90 degrees in phase. One mixer receives an input set (e.g., LO and RF signals) with a zero-degree phase shift, and the other mixer receives the input set shifted in phase by 90 degrees. Thus, the leakage signals at the output of each mixer have the same magnitude but are 180 degrees apart in phase. The IF ports of the mixers are tied together, allowing the leakage signals of the mixers to combine destructively, thereby increasing isolation and sensitivity.
