Abstract:
Abstract:
A method of forming a structural assembly may include providing a first component and a second component to be joined together. The method may additionally include scanning a contour of a first mating surface of the first component and scanning a contour of a second mating surface of the second component. The method may further include producing a thermoplastic element having opposing first and second element surfaces substantially matching a contour of the first mating surface and the second mating surface.
Abstract:
A structural joint includes a first member having a first base portion and a first leg portion. The structural joint further includes a second member having a second base portion and a second base portion. The first base portion and the second base portion are coupled together at an overlapping portion. The first leg portion and the second leg portion form a cavity for structurally coupling to a structural member.

Abstract:
Joining arrangement for two boxes (11, 11') of composite material with an intermediate part (31) and method for manufacturing said intermediate part (31). The joint is effected using rivets between the skins (15, 15'; 17, 17') of said boxes (11, 11') and the upper and lower flanges (33, 35) of said T-shaped part (31). The manufacturing method includes the following steps: a) Providing two C-shaped preforms (41, 41'), configured such that their central sections (43, 43') are parallel with one another and their upper and lower flanges (55, 55'; 57, 57') are approximately parallel to the end zones of said skins (15, 15'; 17', 15'); b) Providing two flat preforms (45, 47) to reinforce the flanges (35, 37); c) Forming and curing the part (31) made from said preforms (41, 41', 45, 47) using an RTM method.
Abstract:
A seam (200,700,900) comprising a first piece of laminated fabric (105,505,805), a second piece of laminated fabric (110,510,810), a layer of adhesive hydrostatic polymer (115,120,520,600,820), and a seam tape (300) wherein the first and second pieces of laminated fabrics are coupled together at a common border with the layer of adhesive hydrostatic polymer to form a seam, and wherein the seam tape (300) is at least partially coupled along the seam. A method of forming a seam (200,700,800) comprising stacking, in order, a first piece of laminated fabric (105,505,805), at least one strip of adhesive hydrostatic polymer (115,120,520,600,820), and a second piece of laminated fabric (110,510,810), ultrasonically coupling the first piece of laminated fabric, strips of adhesive hydrostatic polymer, and second piece of laminated fabric together, wherein at least a portion of adhesive hydrostatic polymer from the strips of adhesive hydrostatic polymer is extruded through the seam, and applying a seam tape (300) along at least a portion of the seam.
Abstract:
The invention relates to inflatable fabrics which comprise two separated and distinct fabric layers in discrete areas of such fabrics as well as connecting seam-producing materials to which such fabric layers are simultaneously attached. The resultant inflatable fabric composite thus includes inflatable areas separated, at least partially, by seamed barrier areas. This configuration will form 'pillowed' structures within the target fabric upon inflation. Such connecting seam-producing materials are incorporated within the two-layer structure as peel seams in relation with the individual fabric layers. Upon inflation, the seams then act as shear seams which greatly increases the overall strength of the two-layer inflatable fabric. These shear seams thus provide a relatively effective manner of reducing air permeability within the entire fabric article. Such a fabric may be utilized in numerous and various applications wherein fabric inflation is desired or necessary. In particular, the inventive fabric may be incorporated within an airbag cushion.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A low stress to seal, unitary gasket tape is provided that is particularly suited for use in form-in-place gaskets. The gasket tape preferably comprises at least two joined porous expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) tapes aligned along tape side surfaces and a substantially air impermeable layer there between. The plane of expansion of the ePTFE is substantially parallel to the flange surface providing longitudinal and transverse strength. The substantially air to impermeable layer prevents fluid from permeating through the gasket in the radial direction.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for the flat butt joining of two sections (10, 12) of textile pieces by means of an adhesive ribbon (28) bridging the one and the other edge (14, 16). According to the invention, before the application of the adhesive ribbon (28), the two margins adjacent to said edges (14, 16) are glued together such as to hold together said edges (14, 16), the glued margins are cut down close to said edges (14, 16) held together, said adhesive ribbon (28) is applied across the two edges (14, 16) held together and said cut-down glued margins (24, 26) and, on gluing the adhesive ribbon (28), said cut-down glued margins (24, 26) are smoothed down.
