The oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas is made almost zero and the exhaust gas temperature is raised. An air supply system is provided for supplying air between the NOx catalyst and the DPF, during deactivated catalyst reactivation treatment due to sulfur poisoning of the NOx catalyst. According to the invention, the partial transfer duct includes two branches (70, 72) connected to the inlets of the turbine and each supporting throttling means (74, 76) which control the circulation of compressed air in said branches, and said partial transfer duct is built into the casing of the turbocharger so as to be short between the outlet of the compressor and the dual inlets of the turbine, and thus to be compact and have reduced response time.

A purge air supply device (51) is provided to spray purge air into the reaction chamber (25) and discharge exhaust gas near the catalytic unit (28) from the reaction chamber (25) when the bypass pipe (42) is opened. This prevents condensation of sulfuric acid from deteriorating denitration catalysts in the reaction chamber (25).
