By limited content delivery, the impact of motion and similar phenomenon on the wireless resources as a whole can be reduced.

To set up a multimedia session involving a mobile terminal, a session packet access bearer is established between the mobile terminal and an access point to a packet data network by way of a radio access network. The access point is coupled to a multimedia system that provides multimedia session services. Using the session packet access bearer, a multimedia session involving the mobile terminal is initiated that includes a plurality of media data streams. Media packet access bearers between the mobile terminal and the access point are established. Media binding information is used to associate that multimedia session and each media data stream to one of the media packet access bearers used to transport a corresponding one of the media data streams between the mobile terminal and the access point. The media binding information may be used in a variety of ways to set up and control the multimedia session and the media packet access bearers.

In an exemplary embodiment, the method monitors a series of events, namely, a setup event, a begin event and an end event, which take place during a communication session. The monitoring of such events is accomplished by a data rating application which resides on the wireless device. By monitoring such events, the data rating application is then able to rate the communication session using a number of rating options. The rating option selected includes both how to meter the data transmitted during a data session and determine the rate to be applied to each metered increment.

When the interface is activated to support the data stream, the interface establishes N simultaneously active connections through the network, N exceeding the number of connections N1 needed at least to transport the data stream.The interface allocates N1 of the N connections to the concatenation group, one or more remaining unallocated connections through the telephone network are kept open but remain unused. The interface monitors whether a connection from the N1 allocated connections fails and, if so, allocates at least one of the remaining connections for transporting the data for the member to which the failing connection was allocated.

In a multi-network environment, a request signal is sent from a user terminal to each of a number of communications networks. In response, the network returns a response signal. Based on the response signals received from all networks, the user selects one of the networks. The response signal contains information on communication services of the requested network such as tariff data and current congestion level. The user terminal then establishes a connection to the selected communications network. In a modified embodiment, request signals may be sent during a handover to base stations of different wireless networks to request for congestion information for selecting a network having the lowest congestion level as a handover destination. In a further modification, when a congestion is encountered in a first network in response to a user's request, a second network of low congestion level is selected and indicated to the user.

The invention provides a system in which service providers and users negotiate the parameters and prices of telecommunication services in real time, allowing the service providers and users to establish communications that better optimise their available resources and current needs. This is done by having software agents that represent each concerned party, negotiate the terms of the communication in real time. Further, the invention allows third parties to create new agent or negotiating discipline software available over the Internet, which will allow the technology to mature quickly, and to respond to new services and/or requirements.

A method for enabling a user of a telephone service to select the quality level of a connection is disclosed, said method comprising the following steps: manually specifying the desired quality level, automatically setting up the call with the specified quality level. To assist the user when selecting the quality, a voice sample of the user or a pre-recorded voice sample with specified quality levels may be played back to the user as a reference before the selection of a quality level. Alternatively, the user may be informed about transmission parameters associated with specified quality levels before the selection of a quality level. A service control point and a service switching point for carrying out said method in a telecommunication network are also disclosed.
