    摘要: A method of fabricating devices incorporating microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) using a UV curable tape includes providing a substrate (14) with a MEMS layer (18) arranged on one side (12) of the substrate (14). At least one operation is performed on the substrate (14) from a side (22) of the substrate (14) opposed to the side (12) having the MEMS layer (18). A holding tape (38) is applied to the side (22) of the substrate. At least one operation is then performed on the further layer (10) to define individual chips (20). Each chip (20) is composed of a part of the substrate (24), at least one part of the MEMS layer (18) and a part of the further layer (10). Individual chips (20) are then able to be released from the tape (38) by exposing the tape (38) to UV light.

    摘要: A capping mechanism for a print engine includes a capping member (592) mountable in alignment with a printhead of the print engine. The capping member is displaceable into and out of abutment with the printhead for capping and uncapping the printhead respectively. A torsion bar (728) arrangement acts on the capping member for displacing the capping member. A mechanical displaceable element (570) co-operates with the torsion bar arrangement such that, when the element is in a parked position, the element engages the torsion bar arrangement to cause the capping member to be displaced into abutment with the printhead to cap the printhead. When the displaceable element is out of its parked position, the capping member is urged by leaf spring (734) by the torsion bar arrangement out of abutment with the printhead. Element (570) also moves a cutting device (566) for separating the printed sheet after printing.

    摘要: This invention concerns a consumable authentication protocol for validating the existence of an untrusted authentication chip, as well as ensuring that the authentication chip lasts only as long as the consumable. In a further aspect it concerns a consumable authentication system for the protocol. A trusted authentication chip has a test function; and the untrusted authentication chip has a read function to test data from the trusted chip, including a random number and its signature, encrypted using a first key, by comparing the decrypted signature with a signature calculated from the decrypted random number. In the event that the two signatures match, it returns a data message and an encrypted version of the data message in combination with the random number, encrypted using the second key. The test function operates to encrypt the random number together with the data message using a second secret key, compare the two versions of the random number encrypted together with the data message using the second key. In the event that the two versions match, the untrusted authentication chip and the data message are considered to be valid; otherwise, they are considered to be invalid.
