Command packets for personal video recorder. A transport stream (TS) contains data and also includes a transport packet (TP)/TS formatted command packets. The TP/TS formatted command packet may be communicated between any number of devices, including multiple chips, multiple boards, and multiple processors. A decoder is able to decode the TP/TS formatted command packet and to perform the appropriate operation on data portions of the TS. When a TS is provided to a device not having the capability to perform the proper decoding of the TP/TS formatted command packet, that particular packet may be deemed as being unidentified (or unknown) adaptation field data. Alternatively, the packet may be identified as being corrupted data and/or irrelevant data. The command packets may be encoded into command packets of the transport stream in such a way that it is backward compatible with previous systems.

A method and system (Fig. 1) for dropping lower priority packets for transmission over a communication medium (106, 108) is provided. A cable modem termination system (102) receives one or more packets to be transferred to one or more data providers (104), each packet having a priority. Then, based on the priority, a media access controller (112) stores each of the packets in one or more priority queues in a fixed shared memory space (114) in such a way as to maintain the order in which the packets were received in each of the priority queues. The media access controller (112) monitors the number of packets in each of the priority queues and signals an interrupt when a packet threshold is exceeded in one or more of the priority queues. The media access controller (112) then drops lower priority packets in the fixed shared memory space (114) based on the order received to guarantee that there is enough memory to store higher priority packets in the fixed shared memory space (114).

A double-conversion tuner receives an RF signal having a number of channels and down-converts a selected channel from the plurality of channels. The double-conversion tuner includes a first mixer configured to up-convert the RF signal to a first IF signal using a first local oscillator signal. A first local oscillator includes a delta-sigma fractional-N phase lock loop to produce the first local oscillator signal. The delta-sigma fractional-N phase lock loop is configured to perform fine-tuning of the first local oscillator signal and to have a wide tuning range sufficient to cover the number of channels. A bandpass filter is configured to select a subset of channels from said first IF signal. A second mixer is configured to down-convert the subset of channels to a second IF signal using a second local oscillator signal. A second local oscillator generates the second local oscillator signal. The second local oscillator is configured to perform coarse frequency tuning of the second local oscillator signal and has a narrow tuning range relative to said first local oscillator. The delta-sigma fractional-N phase lock loop in the first local oscillator permits implementation of a double-conversion tuner with improved phase noise for a given amount of power and complexity.

The spectrally-flattened time-domain DS signal has a spectral envelope including a second plurality of formant peaks. Each of the second plurality of formant peaks approximately coincides in frequency with a respective one of the first plurality of formant peaks. Also, the second plurality of formant peaks have approximately equal respective amplitudes. Next, the controller derives, from the spectrally-flattened time-domain DS signal, a set of filter coefficients representative of a filter response that is to be used to filter the DS signal.

The multi-concentric pad (MCP) configuration includes a first set of input output (IO) pads and a second set of IO pads, both disposed on an integrated circuit die. Each IO pad in said first set and said second set of IO pads includes a bond pad for receiving a bond wire connection, and an IO circuit coupled to the bond pad. The IO circuits provide an interface between a signal received at the corresponding bond pad and a core circuit disposed on said IC die. The first set of IO pads are arranged closer to the perimeter of the IC die than the second set of IO pads. Furthermore, the second set of IO pads are arranged so that each IO circuit in the second set of IO pads is closer to the center of the IC die than a corresponding IO circuit in the first set of IO pads.

A system for implementing Incremental Redundancy (IR) operations in a wireless receiver includes at least one processing device, an IR processing function, and IR memory. The at least one processing device is operable to receive analog signals corresponding to a data block, to sample the analog signals to produce samples, to equalize the samples to produce soft decision bits corresponding to the data block, and to initiate IR operations. The IR processing function is operable to perform IR operations on the soft decision bits of the data block in an attempt to correctly decode the data block. The IR memory operably couples to the IR processing function, includes Type I IR memory adapted to store IR status information of the data block, and includes Type II IR memory adapted to store the data block.

Data to be encrypted and encryption information may be sent to a security processor via a packet network so that the security processor may extract the encryption information and use it to encrypt the data. The encryption information may include flow information, security association and/or other cryptographic information, and/or one or more addresses associated with such information. The encryption information may consist of a tag in a header that is appended to packets to be encrypted before the packets are sent to the security processor. The packet and tag header may be encapsulated into an Ethernet packet and routed via an Ethernet connection to the security processor.

A system and method for minimizing the frequency error of satellite modem signals at a satellite gateway. The gateway downstream baud (symbol) clock and the elements that control the upstream frequency ( i.e ., local oscillators in the conversion chain, A/D sample clocks) are locked to a common frequency reference. The gateway sends upstream satellite frequency offset information, such as satellite ephemeris data from which to calculate Doppler offset, to the satellite modem. The satellite modem locks the frequency of the satellite modems master oscillator to the recovered baud rate using a frequency locked loop. The satellite modem uses its master oscillator as the carrier reference for the upstream frequency up conversion. The satellite modem uses or calculates the upstream satellite frequency offset and compensates for this offset by shifting its center frequency.
