The depth d2 of each of the grooves 25a and 25b is greater than the depth d1 of each of the recess parts 23a and 23b. In a process of adhering the infrared sensor element to the holder 20, an adhesive is applied to the recess parts 23a and 23b.

The infrared detector is supported by and thermally coupled to the pedestal, with the pedestal thermally isolating the infrared detector from the plurality of electrical components. The infrared detector may include a substrate having an array of infrared detectors and a readout integrated circuit interconnected with the array disposed on an upper surface thereof, with a generally planar window spaced above the array and a mesa bonded to the window. The mesa may define a closed cavity between the window and the array that encloses the array such that a solder seal bonds the mesa to the substrate so as to seal the cavity.

An infrared barrier is formed on the semiconductor lens to block the infrared radiation from passing through the boundary between the circumference of the convex lens and the window. Accordingly, the infrared sensor element can receive only the infrared radiation originating from a detection area intended by the convex lens.

The inner aperture region (25b, 32b) is configured above the measuring structure (11) and is transparent to the infra-red radiation (IR 1) that is to be detected and the outer aperture region (25a, 32a) is at least partially intransparent to incident infra-red radiation (IR2). The outer aperture region can be configured in particular as a reflective coating consisting of metal or a dielectric layer, or as a reflective structure composed of trenches with oblique surfaces or an absorbent structure.
