An antireflection or light-absorbing coating composition which exhibits good light absorption in the wavelength range of from 100 to 450 nm, is free from footing and intermixing, and possesses excellent storage stability and step coverage; and a novel copolymer therefor. The copolymer is an acrylic or methacrylic copolymer comprising a main chain having carboxyl groups bonded to the carbon atoms thereof and, reaction-bonded thereto, at least (1) repeating units each comprising an aminated or hydroxylated organic chromophore which absorbs light in the wavelength range of from 100 to 450 nm directly or through and -R1NHCXY- group (wherein R1 represents an alkylene group; X represents O or S; Y represents O or an NR6 group; and R6 represents H or a substituted or unsubstituted, straight-chain or cyclic alkyl or phenylene group), and (2) repeating units each comprising an alkyl group having a double bond or an epoxy group. A resist image having high resolution can be formed by coating a wafer with the above composition to form a bottom antireflection coating, coating the surface of the coating with a photoresist, and then conducting exposure to far ultraviolet light and development.

The invention also relates to a method for producing said polymers. The monomers of formula (I) can be especially, benzophenone derivatives. The polymers can also be produced by graft copolymerisation of a substrate, whereby a covalently bonded coating is obtained on the substrate surface. The inventive antimicrobial polymers can be used as a microbicide coating on e.g., hygiene items or in the area of medicine, and in paints or protective coatings.

A composition providing electrically conductive adhesive hydrogels used as skin contact adhesives and an electrical interface for disposable medical devices. The hydrogels are cationic acrylates and are made from acrylic esters of quaternary chlorides and/or sulfates or acrylic amides of quaternary chlorides. The present hydrogels are formed by free radical polymerization in the presence of water by ultraviolet curing with initiator and multifunctional cross-linking agent, and include a buffer system to prevent discoloration, hydrolysis of and improve shelf-life of the hydrogels. Other additives may be added to the hydrogels either before or after curing, depending on the intended end use. The present hydrogels hydrate a subject's skin, wet around skin surface hair and protect against burning of a subject due to electrical stimulation through the hydrogel. The hydrogels, cohesiveness enables direct hydrogel-to-hydrogel contact and storage, yet remain readily separable. The hydrogels may be presented in a formula which is noncorrosive to aluminum in contact therewith, and pass standards testing for biocompatibility and electrical properties.
