A method for manufacturing a honeycomb structure wherein a formed article of a honeycomb shape having a plurality of partition walls is manufactured by the use of a body containing a ceramic raw material as a main component, a partition wall reinforcing agent is attached to said plurality of partition walls present in end portions of cell openings on at least one side of the formed article, and then the article is fired, which comprises using, as the partition wall reinforcing agent, a dispersion prepared by admixing a partition wall reinforcing material with a dispersion medium containing an amphipathic liquid compound having both a hydrophilic group and a hydrophobic group as a main component. The method allows the stable manufacture of a honeycomb structure excellent in isostatic strength and erosion resistance, with great improvement of productivity and significant lowering of the production cost thereof.
