摘要:
A method for titrating a stimulation parameter for one or more electrode contacts in a system for stimulating a hypoglossal nerve of a patient includes activating one of the one or more electrode contacts to stimulate the hypoglossal nerve of the patient, obtaining a first and/or second physiological measurement from the patient, comparing the first and/or second physiological measurement to a first and/or second predetermined target value, adjusting a stimulation parameter for the one of the one or more electrode contacts if the first and/or second physiological measurement differs from the first and/or second predetermined target value.

A neurostimulation system provides for capture verification and stimulation intensity adjustment to ensure effectiveness of vagus nerve stimulation in modulating one or more target functions in a patient. In various embodiments, stimulation is applied to the vagus nerve, and evoked responses are detected to verify that the stimulation captures the vagus nerve and to adjust one or more stimulation parameters that control the stimulation intensity. The system comprises a control circuit configured to control the delivery of the neurostimulation pulses using a stimulation intensity, the control circuit including a stimulation parameter adjustor configured to adjust the stimulation intensity using the detected evoked responses, and a stimulation adjustment timer configured to time the adjustment of the stimulation intensity using the detected evoked responses according to a specified schedule.

Various system embodiments comprise a neural stimulation delivery system adapted to deliver a neural stimulation signal for use in delivering a neural stimulation therapy, a side effect detector, and a controller. The controller is adapted to control the neural stimulation delivery system, receive a signal indicative of detected side effect, determine whether the detected side effect is attributable to delivered neural stimulation therapy, and automatically titrate the neural stimulation therapy to abate the side effect. In various embodiments, the side effect detector includes a cough detector. In various embodiments, the controller is adapted to independently adjusting at least one stimulation parameter for at least one phase in the biphasic waveform as part of a process to titrate the neural stimulation therapy. Other aspects and embodiments are provided herein.

A device for stimulating mechanosensory nerve endings can include: a housing having an internal chamber and first and second openings; a membrane covering the first opening of housing, said membrane being sufficient flexibility to vibrate upon receiving vibratory stimulation from a vibratory mechanism; and a coupling mechanism at the second opening configured for being fluidly coupled to the vibratory mechanism, wherein the entire device consists of magnetically unresponsive materials. The housing can be cylindrical, or any polygon shape. The membrane can be integrated with the housing or coupled thereto, such as with adhesive. Optionally, the membrane can be removably coupled to the housing.

A method of treatment includes delivering an agent into a patient, and providing energy inside the patient so that the energy can interact with the agent to treat a nerve. A system for treatment includes a source of agent for delivery into a patient, and an energy source for providing energy inside the patient so that the energy can interact with the agent to treat a nerve.

A method and apparatus for monitoring optic function is provided. The apparatus and method relies on two principle modes of measuring the function of the optic nerve, namely, monitoring VEPs for neural function, and monitoring at least one additional parameter of optic function such as intraocular pressure, blood flow or location of the eye to provide a multi-variable optic function monitor. The method and apparatus is proposed for the use to diagnose and potentially prevent the incidence of POVL and anaesthesia awareness in patients during medical procedures.
