摘要： An improved lower cost sight glass and a method for producing the same is disclosed, whereby the sight glass is made by placing a transparent component in secure contact with a metallic ring. The contact may optionally be effectuated by temporarily altering the relative dimensions of the metallic ring and the transparent component, placing the transparent component into the inner space of the metallic ring, and then reversing the altered relative dimensions of the metallic ring and the transparent component. A hermetic seal is formed between the transparent component and the metallic ring is by the application of an inorganic sealing compound.

摘要： A seal formed between two parts that will remain gas tight in high temperature operating environments which experience frequent thermal cycling, which is particularly useful as an insulating joint in solid oxide fuel cells. A first metal part is attached to a reinforcing material. A glass forming material in the positioned in between the first metal part and the second part, and a seal is formed between the first metal part and the second part by heating the glass to a temperature suitable to melt the glass forming materials. The glass encapsulates and bonds at least a portion of the reinforcing material, thereby adding tremendous strength to the overall seal. A ceramic material may be added to the glass forming materials, to assist in forming an insulating barrier between the first metal part and the second part and to regulating the viscosity of the glass during the heating step.

摘要： A method of manufacturing metal to glass, metal to metal and metal to ceramic connections to be used in SOFC applications, said connections being produced as a mixture of a base glass powder and a metal oxide powder. As a result, the inherent properties of the glass used in the composite seals may be altered locally in the metal-coating interface by adding e.g. MgO in order to control the viscosity and wetting, and at the same time maintain the bulk properties such as high coefficient of thermal expansion of the basic glass towards the seal components.

摘要： The invention is a hermetic seal that is compatible with lithium-ion electrolyte in lithium batteries. Pin feed throughs are sealed by compression, chemical bonding, and mechanical bonding between the metal pin (1) and a sealing glass (7), such as Cabal-12. The pin (1) may be coated with a metal or a metal oxide to enhance compatibility with the lithium battery environment. The pin (1) surface is roughened or mechanically shaped to ensure mechanical bonding with the glass seal (7). Mechanical bonds are also achieved by placing the pin/glass seal interface in compression by an external compression band.
