The present invention relates to compositions of low molecular mass arabinoxylans for use as dietary supplements and to methods of improving growth performance and feed utilization of animals through the supplementation of their diets with the said compositions. In a preferred embodiment, the low molecular mass arabinoxylans are derived from natural sources, such as plant material and more preferably of cereals. They can be selected fractions of said natural arabinoxylans or can be obtained by acid and/or enzymatic depolymerization or fragmentation of said natural arabinoxylans or they can be structural analogues produced by chemical and/or physical processes.

[Problem] To provide a feed that does not pollute rearing water, improves the immunity activity of leptocephalus larvae, is capable of directly feeding eel leptocephalus, and is capable of effectively inducing the growth of said larvae into glass eels. [Solution] This micro-encapsulated aquaculture feed includes: an oil phase 11 having an oil-soluble nutrient component; a water phase 13 which is present inside the oil phase 11, and which includes a water-soluble nutrient component; and a film 15 which includes the oil phase 11 and the water phase 13. The water-soluble nutrient component includes at least one hydrolysate from among hydrolysates of amino acids, oligopeptides, and proteins.

The present invention relates to a method for identifying a pepsin resistant alpha amylase enzyme for use in a feed supplement comprising: i) providing an alpha amylase enzyme; ii) admixing said alpha amylase with com based feed and buffer solution comprising a pepsin concentration of 9000 U/ml at pH 3, 40° C., 500 rpm for al least 120 minutes and analysing alpha amylase activity on said alpha amylase compared to a control sample; wherein said control sample differs in that no pepsin is present during incubation; and iii) selecting an alpha amylase enzyme which substantially maintains alpha amylase activity under the assay conditions; feed supplements and feed stuffs comprising a pepsin resistant alpha amylase and the use of pepsin resistant alpha amylases in feed.

Present invention involves a method for preparation of a feed additive containing surfactin, which uses a high-yield mutant strain, Bacillus subtilis T, and soybeans as the substrate in semi-solid state fermentation and after drying and grinding of the fermented soybeans into soybean powder to give a feed additive containing surfactin; wherein each kilogram of the fermented soybean powder contains about 6-7 g of surfactin. The invention found feed grouper with the feed additive containing surfactin can promote its growth rate, the expression of its immune genes is higher (e.g. AMP, Mx and IFN-induced protein), and the mortality rate of virus-infected fish is significantly lower, indicating the feed containing surfactin has the effects of growth promotion, immunity enhancement and provides resistance to pathogen infection.

The present invention relates to compositions containing (fat-soluble) active ingredients and/or colorants in a matrix based on modified plant gums, i.e. plant gums that have been submitted to hydrolysis to degrade either the protein portion and/or where appropriate, the polysaccharide, and to a process for preparing these compositions as well as to modified plant gums, whose protein part is hydrolysed up to a degree of about 30%, preferably to a degree of from about 0.05 to about 30%, and/or whose polysaccharide part is hydrolysed up to a degree of about 50%, a process for the manufacture thereof and such modified plant gums themselves.
