Described herein is a method for injection moulding of cup-shaped container bodies for precursors of liquid food products, in particular capsules for coffee and soluble products, the method comprising the steps of: a) providing a first mould part (40) having at least one cavity and a second mould part (40) having at least one core, the core being receivable by the cavity for delimiting therewith at least part of a corresponding moulding chamber; b) closing the first and second mould parts (40, 41) for delimiting the moulding chamber; c) injecting a compostable material in the fluid state into the moulding chamber to form the container body; d) waiting for at least partial solidification of the compostable material ; e) opening the first and second mould parts (40, 41); and f) extracting the formed container body from the core. In the course of a moulding operation, in the first mould part (40) a heating fluid is made to circulate and in the second mould part (41) a cooling fluid is made to circulate. In particular, in the course of at least one and the same step of the moulding operation, in the first mould part (40) and in the second mould part (41) the heating fluid and the cooling fluid, respectively, circulate simultaneously.

A layer of a biodegradable, compostable co-polyester is extrusion coated onto the surface of a bio-degradable compostable cellulose film to overcome the limitations of cellulose film as a packaging film for fresh produce and still retain the biodegradability, compostability and stiffness of the overall structure. Additionally, good bond strength between the cellulose film and the extruded co-polyester polymer is achieved by applying a thin coating of co-polyester to the surface of the cellulose film by means of a solvent or water based coating process. A biodegradable, compostable co-polyester polymer is extrusion coated onto an additional barrier layer to provide a significant barrier enhancement in high humidity environments beyond levels that would be reasonably predicted.

The disclosure relates to a laminated packaging material (10) for liquid-tight packages which, after use, may readily be biodegraded or composted. The packaging material (10) has a core layer (11) of biodegradable material and outer, moisture and liquid-tight layers (12, 14, respectively) similarly of biodegradable material which are applied to both sides of the core layer, the layers being bonded to the core layer (11) by means of interjacent layers (13, 15, respectively) of biodegradable binder. The packaging material (10) is produced in that a web of biodegradable material is covered or coated on both sides with an aqueous dispersion of a biodegradable material acting as binder in a quantity of between 0.5 and 5.0 g/m , whereafter the applied binder layers are dried. The dried, coated web is united either with prefabricated web-shaped films of biodegradable material or with biodegradable material which is extruded onto both sides of the web, for the formation of the outer, moisture and liquid-tight layers (12 and 15) of the packaging material (10).
