PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for increasing storage organs of therapeutic potentials imparted by pluripotent stem cells in a tissue by increasing the number of pluripotent cells in an animal, stimulated cells to proliferate, migrate or both proliferate and migrate, a pharmaceutical compositions comprising stimulated cells for treating neurological and corporal disorders, a method for administering such cells stimulated to proliferate, migrate or both proliferate and migrate, pharmaceutical compositions thereof, and a method for treating an animal having neurological and corporal disorders. SOLUTION: The invention provides cells and methods for stimulating proliferation and migration of endogenous and exogenous mammalian stem cells in vivo and in vitro. The invention provides reagents and methods for efficiently proliferating mammalian stem cells in an animal in need thereof and producing stem cells that can be re-introduced into an animal in need thereof to alleviate neurological and corporal disorders. SOLUTION: There is provided an isolated cell population wherein cells of the isolated cell population are derived from bone marrow; >91% of the cells of the cell population co-express cell surface polypeptides CD49c and CD90; the cells of the isolated cell population express at least one trophic factor; the cells of the isolated cell population do not express polypeptide CD34, CD45 or bonesialoprotein (BSP); and the cell population maintains a doubling time of ≤30 h after 30 cell doublings. Substantially homogenous cells populations which co-express CD49c, CD90 and telomerase are made. In one embodiment, humans suffering from a degenerative, traumatic, acute injury, cardiac or neurological condition are treated with the substantially homogenous cells populations which co-express CD49c, CD90 and telomerase. In another embodiment, committed progenitor cells are made are made by selecting from a cultured source of a cell population which co-express CD49c and CD90 and modifying the cell population. The committed progenitor cells can be employed to treat a human suffering from a degenerative, traumatic, acute injury, cardiac or neurological condition and formulate pharmaceutical compositions.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a medicine for increasing neural stem cell numbers. SOLUTION: The method and the medicine are provided for increasing the neural stem cell numbers or neural neogenesis by using prolactin which is a polypeptide hormone. The method can be practiced in vivo to obtain more neural stem cells in situ, which can in turn produce more neurons or glial cells to compensate for lost or dysfunctional neural cells. The method can also be practiced in vitro to produce a large number of neural stem cells in culture. The cultured stem cells can be used, for example, for transplantation treatment of patients or animals suffering from neurodegenerative diseases or conditions. In addition, administration of a medicine containing prolactin can increase the number of neural stem cells.
