Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure the effectiveness of engine brake even if power regenerated in deceleration is low, by making it possible for a generator to consume the power and carrying out power regeneration until just before the vehicle comes to a halt. SOLUTION: A hybrid vehicle comprises an engine 1, the generator 2 coupled with the output shaft of the engine, a motor 4 coupled with the drive axle of the vehicle, and a battery 9 connected with the generator 2 and with the motor 4. The power regenerated by the motor 4 while the vehicle is decelerated is supplied to and consumed by the generator 2. When the value of power to be consumed by the generator 2 while the vehicle is decelerated is greater than a predetermined value, a controller rotates the engine 1 driven by the generator 2 in the motoring mode.
