    摘要: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct injection type spark-ignition internal combustion engine which can realize more favorable stratification combustion by surely changing fuel injected into a cylinder from a fuel injection valve into preferable combustible gas mixture while the fuel is flying and by igniting to burn the combustible gas mixture by an ignition plug.
    SOLUTION: The direct injection type spark-ignition internal combustion engine includes: the fuel injection valve 1 for directly injecting fuel into the cylinder; the ignition plug 2 having an ignition gap positioned in a flying path of the fuel F injected from the fuel injection valve; and a cavity 3 formed in a top surface of a piston. When performing the stratification combustion, the fuel injection valve injects substantially all the fuel in such a direction that the fuel flows into a tumble flow T longitudinally whirling along the cavity in the compression stroke along the whirling direction of the tumble flow, and the ignition plug ignites the fuel at the end stage of injection while it is passing through the ignition gap.

    SOLUTION: Pistons 5 are placed to make reciprocating motion in a cylinder block 1. In an cylinder head 10, an intake path 12 and an exhaust path 14 are formed. In the intake path 12, an intake valve 15 is provided, which has a double cylindrical structure composed of an outer valve 16 and an inner valve 17, and in the exhaust path 14, an exhaust valve 18 is provided, which has a double cylindrical structure composed of an outer valve 19 and an inner valve 20. Openings 161, 191, and 171, 201 are formed respectively in the outer valve 16, 19 and in the inner valve 17, 20. The outer valves and the inner valve are respectively separately rotatively driven by driving gear mechanisms. The intake valve 15 is opened all the way in part of the intake stroke, and the exhaust valve 18 is opened all the way in part of the exhaust stroke.
