PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easy-to-handle catalyst having high polymerization activity and hardly imparting an environmental load, and to provide a polymerization method using the catalyst, in cationic polymerization. SOLUTION: In this production method for a polymer, a boron trifluoride-tetrahydropyran complex is used as the cationic polymerization catalyst, and monomers (a vinyl ether compound, a styrene compound, an N-vinyl compound) each containing a double bond are polymerized. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make polysiloxane materials having proper material characteristics. SOLUTION: New fluorosiloxane-containing monomers are disclosed. These are especially useful for preparing biomedical materials such as contact lenses. A fluorosiloxane-containing monomer wherein a hydrogen-having polar fluorinated graft bound to a terminal difluoro-substituted carbon atom, or a side group is bound to a siloxane group in the polysiloxane-containing monomer is disclosed.
