Abstract:
A DOCSIS set-top gateway device uses multiple embedded cable modems so that one eCM can remained tuned to a frequency being used for a current two-way data session and another eCM can be used to tune to a different frequency. The other eCM that tunes to a different frequency is disabled from operating in the upstream direction to avoid conflict with the two-way eCM in communicating with a CMTS. The eCMs in the DSG are controlled by a client controller that interfaces applications local to the DSG to a central device, such as a CMTS. A message may be sent to a client application requesting content on a traffic flow using a different frequency than the two-way capable sCM. The client controller instructs the upstream-disabled eCM to tune to the different frequency, meanwhile the two-way eCM stays tuned to the current frequency.
Abstract:
A long-term usage profile and a congestion state metric are used to determine QoS treatment to apply to packets corresponding to a given network user. A user's historical long-term use, measured over one or more periods of time, is used to generate a profile that is compared to one or more predetermined usage threshold level(s). If the usage profile, either singular or composite corresponding to whether one or more than one measurement is used respectively, exceeds the threshold(s), QoS treatment is applied to service flow bytes according to the comparison results during times of network channel congestion. Congestion metrics are determined based on a count of the number of bytes dropped during a congestion measurement window. Either the count itself or the count rate of change combined with the count are compared to a congestion threshold. If the measured/derived values exceed a congestion threshold, the channel is deemed congested.
Abstract:
In a data system, such as a cable modem termination system, different-priority flows are scheduled to be routed to their logical destinations by factoring both the priority level and the time spent in queue. The time that each packet of each flow spends waiting for transmission is normalized such that the waiting times of all flows are equalized with respect to each other. A latency scaling parameter is calculated.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to recombinant human BACE polypeptides. More particularly, the invention relates to recombinant human BACE polypeptides that have a modified amino acid sequence at position 33 of the BACE sequence, as well as to polynucleotides, expression vectors, host cells, and methods for producing the modified recombinant human BACE polypeptides.

Abstract:
This invention comprises novel substituted tetronic acid type compounds, 2, 4(3H, 5H)-furandiones, that are useful for the inhibition of the HIV protease enzyme. The compounds may be useful for the treatment of a person with AIDS or AIDS related diseases. The compounds may be used in the attempt to retard the further replication of any retrovirus containing the aspartyl protease enzyme. Compounds are represented by the formula below. ##STR1##
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and apparatus used to determine whether to discard a network packet based upon the latency exhibited by an associated a network packet queue. Network devices can include a queue management module operable to identify a latency metric in network packet queues and determine whether the latency metric renders the network packet queue eligible for discarding packets based upon, for example, a latency policy.
Abstract:
A method for conditionally redeeming transportation credits through a transportation credit program having a sponsor may include verifying, through a validation network provider across a computer network, a recipient's eligibility for a transportation credit having one or more redemption conditions, issuing the transportation credit to the recipient, transmitting the transportation credit to a transportation service provider through the validation network provider across the computer network, and enforcing one or more of the redemption conditions by monitoring one or more of the redemption conditions using a mobile computing device. A method for preventing unauthorized redemption of a conditional transportation credit may include transmitting a transportation credit having a redemption condition to a transportation provider through a validation network provider across a computer network, verifying the redemption condition is met using a mobile computing device, and redeeming the credit with the transportation provider based on verifying that the redemption condition is met.
Abstract:
A subscriber login server is used for managing a subscriber login session. The login server is associated with a DHCP server for configuring a premise equipment device and operator-managed device. A subscriber login client at the premise equipment device securely communicates login username and password identifiers to the subscriber login server without using PPP technology. The login server retrieves matching identifiers from a RADIUS server and authorizes service with messages to the DHCP server and the CMTS. The login client can emulate a PPP login client so that a user's interface is similar to a PPPoE client. However, a layer-3 CMTS can be used instead of a layer-2 CMTS. In addition, subscriber authentication and accounting using RADIUS are preserved, positive network access control at the CMTS is maintained, and native IP traffic is routed or switched for maximum performance and QoS treatment.
Abstract:
An interactive centerpiece system includes a plurality of tablet computers with interactive display devices for displaying slideshows of photograph image data. A substantially flat base with opposing upper and lower surfaces is also provided. The base is formed to lay flat on a table in a table position whereat a base central axis that is perpendicular to both the upper and lower surfaces substantially aligns with a geometric center of the table, to surround a surface area defined by an outer perimeter, about which the plurality of docking stations, into which one of the tablet computers is fixed, are arranged at substantially equal distances from each other. The docking stations are configured to face the interactive display devices outward and define a usable area between the docking stations and the base central axis for uses including receiving traditional event centerpieces.
