Abstract: A method for rendering digital inking is presented. The method comprises receiving inking input at a local application window, and locally processing the received inking input to generate preliminary inking imagery for presentation in the local application window. Parameters of the received inking input are uploaded to a remote client for remote processing to generate finalized inking imagery. The preliminary inking imagery is updated based on the finalized inking imagery.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for contention window size adjustment are described. A method includes: receiving a first group of feedback signals indicating a first state corresponding to data transmitted in a first band used by a carrier, the first group of feedback signals comprising at least one first feedback signal; receiving a second group of feedback signals indicating a second state corresponding to data transmitted in the first band used by the carrier; determining a first scaling factor α for one of the at least one first feedback signal; determining a ratio of the first group of feedback signals to the first group of feedback signals and the second group of feedback signals; and comparing the ratio to a threshold to determine a contention window size (CWS) of the first band, wherein the first scaling factor α substitutes a weight of the one of the at least one first feedback signal in determination of the ratio of the first group of feedback signals to the first group of feedback signals and the second group of feedback signals.

Abstract: A server-based desktop-virtual machines architecture may be extended to a client machine. In one embodiment, a user desktop is remotely accessed from a client system. The remote desktop is generated by a first virtual machine running on a server system, which may comprise one or more server computers. During execution of the first virtual machine, writes to a corresponding virtual disk are directed to a delta disk file or redo log. A copy of the virtual disk is created on the client system. When a user decides to “check out” his or her desktop, the first virtual machine is terminated (if it is running) and a copy of the delta disk is created on the client system. Once the delta disk is present on the client system, a second virtual machine can be started on the client system using the virtual disk and delta disk to provide local access to the user's desktop at the client system. This allows the user to then access his or her desktop without being connected to a network.

Abstract: A computing system that provides virtual computing services may generate and manage remote computing sessions between client computing devices and virtual desktop instances hosted on the service provider's network. A computing resource instance manager may monitor connections to and disconnections from a virtual desktop instance during particular time periods, and may apply a resource management policy to determine whether and when to shut down an underlying virtualized computing resource instance following a disconnection (e.g., immediately, after some period of time, or only between certain hours). A storage volume for the virtual desktop instance may be detached during a shutdown. In response to a reconnection request, the virtualized computing resource instance (or another such instance) may be restarted and the storage volume may be reattached. The computing resource instance manager may develop a model for predicting when to shut down or restart an instance based on historical data or machine learning.
