Abstract: A method for preparing mesoporous copper oxide (CuO) includes providing a copper composition including copper (Cu), phenanthroline, and a Schiff base, combining the copper composition with a sodium salt to provide a salt mixture, and calcining the salt mixture to provide the mesoporous CuO. The mesoporous copper oxide has an ordered structure and a diameter ranging from about 0.5 μm to about 3 μm.

Abstract: A system and method for producing hydrogen (H2) gas and a magnesium (Mg)-aluminum (Al) based aqueous suspension from pre-prepared effervescent tablets are provided. The produced H2 gas can be stored in a tank or directly utilized in a fuel cell, whereas the produced suspension can be employed as an advanced heat transfer fluid in a variety of thermal applications. Furthermore, the as-prepared tablets are fabricated with a homogeneously mixed and well-compressed mixture of Al particles, Mg particles, and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) powder in a sealed container to prevent air and humidity from reacting with the raw materials. As a result of the chemical reaction between the tablet and water, H2 gas (in the form of bubbles) and the Mg—Al-based suspension are produced simultaneously. This system results in two products (i.e., H2 and suspension) that can be used individually or all at once by integrating the different system components together.

Abstract: The amusement ride for children has an open frame and a swinging passenger carriage suspended from a crossbar carried by two trolleys mounted in parallel tracks on the roof of the open frame. The passenger carriage has an upper platform rotatably mounted on a base platform, rotation of the upper platform being controlled manually by the passenger through rotation of a wheel mounted on a column having an end journaled into a bearing mounted in the base platform. A reversible motor is mounted on the roof frame, the shaft of the motor being connected to the crossbar by a crank and connecting rod to control translational movement of the trolleys, causing the passenger carriage to swing forward and backward. The combination of translational movement and swinging movement of the carriage with rotational movement of the upper platform provides a uniquely thrilling sensation for a child seated on the passenger carriage.

Abstract: The hybrid desalination and energy production system includes a desalination system for separating seawater into purified water and brine, an electrodialysis system for treating the brine and outputting low salinity water, a hypersaline brine solution, and H2 gas; an evaporator for treating the hypersaline brine solution and outputting salt and water vapor; a superheater for treating the water vapor and outputting a superheated water vapor; a turbine for receiving the superheated water vapor to generate energy; a gas scrubber for receiving the H2 gas from the electrodialysis system and producing dry hydrogen; and a hydrogen cell for receiving the dry hydrogen and outputting energy. A condenser converts the vapor into condensate and low salinity water. A desalinated water collection tank receives the desalinated or low salinity water. A pressure retarded osmosis system receives the brine, the low salinity water, and condensate from the condenser to produce dilute brine.

Abstract: The disclosed technology generally relates to photovoltaic devices and more particularly to back contact photovoltaic devices, and to methods of fabricating back contact photovoltaic devices. In one aspect, a back contact photovoltaic cell includes an n-type silicon substrate having formed on a rear side first layer stacks formed at first locations and second layer stacks formed at second locations different from and non-overlapping with the first locations. Each of the first layer stacks includes a passivating tunneling layer and a first transparent conductive layer having a first work function, where the first transparent conductive layer induces an inversion region in the n-type silicon substrate at a corresponding one of the first locations, where the inversion region forms an emitter region of the back contact photovoltaic cell. Each of the second layer stacks induces an accumulation region in the n-type silicon substrate at a corresponding one of the second locations, where the accumulation region forms a back-surface field region of the back contact photovoltaic cell.
