Abstract:
A canting device adjusts the angle of a shoe and/or a pedal in an upward and inward direction to position a bicyclist's foot to maximize the muscle power to be applied by the foot. The device has a tapered thickness and in one instance, is inserted between the sole of the shoe and a cleat, the larger of the tapered thickness being positioned toward the inside of the foot.
Abstract:
A method of detecting and sequencing post translationally modified peptides is disclosed wherein a negative ion precursor scan is performed. A negative ion high resolution MS scan is then performed and then MRM channels in positive ion mode are determined and monitored. A positive ion MS/MS scan is then performed.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of restricting access to mobile platform location information may involve receiving, via a link, location information for a mobile platform at a processor of the mobile platform, and preventing unauthorized access to the location information by an operating system associated with the mobile platform.
Abstract:
A plastic cutlery item molded from a plastic material, such as polystyrene, having a metallic coating that imparts to this cutlery item the appearance of metal cutlery or silverware. In one embodiment the plastic cutlery or tableware items are molded using injection molding techniques, and subjected to a vacuum metallizing process in an individualized non-contiguous manner, where a thin metallic layer is deposited on at least one of their surfaces. The resultant items simulate the appearance of metal cutlery or tableware. In one embodiment of the invention the plastic cutlery or tableware articles are molded from a clear polystyrene resin and are coated with a thin stainless steel layer through vacuum sputtering deposition on only one of the sides. The abrasion resistance of the metallic coating can be enhanced by subjecting the articles to a post-metallizing holding period or by applying a clear protective overcoat.
Abstract:
Methods and communication nodes for assigning unique identifiers to a plurality of nodes. A plurality of data values are maintained in memory, each being associated to one of the nodes. A bit mask value is obtained that, when applied to the plurality of data values, produces a plurality of unique identifiers. The bit mask value is made available to the nodes thereby assigning a unique identifier to each of the nodes.
Abstract:
Systems and methods according to these exemplary embodiments provide for methods and systems that enable decoupling of medium access control (MAC) functions from other optical transceiver functions to, for example, promote scalability of passive optical networks (PONs). A MAC frame processing unit can communicate MAC frames to optical transceiver modules via an interconnect using an encapsulating frame according to another communications protocol, e.g., XAUI.
Abstract:
An all-terrain or utility vehicle having various combinations of left and right front wheels, left and right rear wheels, a differential rotationally variably coupling the left and right front wheels together with a variable coupling torque and a source of motive power being selectively coupled to the left and right rear wheels in one configuration and coupled to the left and right front wheels as well as to the left and right rear wheels in a second configuration. The coupling torque is relatively stronger when a speed of the vehicle is relatively slower and is relatively weaker when the speed of the vehicle is relatively faster. The second configuration is selectable from the first configuration while the vehicle is in motion and (1) a rotational difference in speed exists between at least one of the left and right front wheels and at least one of the left and right rear wheels and (2) a rotational speed of at least one of the left and right rear wheels exceeds a rotational speed of at least one of the left and right front wheels.
Abstract:
A system for generating electrical power for an individual property (10) comprises a wind powered electricity generator (16) mounted on that property and arranged so that the electrical power generated be used in that property in preference to or to supplement electrical power provided by the national grid or other general electrical energy source.
Abstract:
An ion inlet for a mass spectrometer is disclosed comprising a housing having a sampling orifice and an atmospheric pressure orifice. One or more gas outlets are provided in the housing. Gas is drawn through the sampling orifice by a pump so that the gas exits via the one or more gas outlets.
