Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for reducing a quantity of data sent carrier aggregation (CA) related capability reporting by a UE operating in a cell using full dimension multiple-input multiple-output (FD-MIMO) techniques. In an exemplary method, a base station obtains a relative weight of baseband processing for a component carrier (CC) configured for full-dimension multiple-input multiple-output (FD-MIMO) communications for a user equipment (UE); determines, based on the relative weight, to enable FD-MIMO downlink (DL) transmissions to the UE via the CC; and transmits an FD-MIMO transmission via the CC to the UE.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide a plurality of discovery reference signal (DRS) search modes implemented by the user equipment (UE) during contention-based communication in an unlicensed spectrum. The plurality of DRS search modes may include a first DRS search mode (“Full search mode”), second DRS search mode (“Comb search mode”), and a third DRS search mode (“Thin search mode”). The DRS search modes may be selected by the UE based on the system requirements (e.g., tradeoffs between robustness and complexity against cycle cost). Features of the present disclosure further provide techniques for dynamically switching between the plurality of DRS search modes in order to minimize power consumption while reducing the number of cycles required to locate the DRS.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may identify a throttling indicator for a shared resource associated with a modem at the UE. The CE may determine a configuration of the modem based on a configuration received from a Radio Resource Control layer of the UE. Based on the modem configuration and the throttling indicator, the UE may identify a throttling level to apply to the modem. The UE may adjust the modem configuration for communicating with a base station based on the throttling level in order to reduce resource usage below a usage threshold. By reducing usage of the shared resource by the modem, the UE may have a greater availability of the shared resource to meet the needs of other components of the UE. This may provide an improved user experience at the UE, among other benefits.

Abstract: An apparatus may receive a downlink subframe from a serving base station. The downlink subframe may include interference associated with a second subframe transmitted by an intra-frequency neighboring cell (IFNC). The apparatus may detect whether there are interfering cell-specific reference signals (CRS) in one or more symbols of the second subframe. The apparatus may determine, based on whether interfering CRS are detected in the one or more symbols of the second subframe, a subframe type of the second subframe. The apparatus may cancel detected interfering CRS from the received downlink subframe based on the determined subframe type of the second subframe.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for blind detection of cell-specific reference signals. Methods and apparatus are provided for detecting a cell-specific reference signal (CRS) in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) symbol by a user equipment (UE). The method generally includes predicting a current channel response of a current OFDM symbol based on a channel response of at least one previous OFDM symbol, estimating a noise power level of the current OFDM symbol, forming a log likelihood ratio (LLR) of two detection hypotheses based on the predicted current channel response and the estimated noise power level, comparing the LLR to a pre-determined threshold, and determining that at least one CRS is present in the current OFDM symbol based on the comparison.

Abstract: Aspects are provided which allow an apparatus to efficiently indicate downgraded band combinations associated with carrier aggregation (CA) to a base station, in which one or more UE capabilities such as the DL MIMO of certain supported band combinations may be downgraded in exchange for other UE capabilities such as FD-MIMO and 256/1024QAM. The apparatus, which may be a UE, receives a request from a base station for information associated with downgraded band combinations and for information corresponding to at least one UE capability associated with each of the downgraded band combinations. After receiving the request, the UE sends, to the base station, information indicating the downgraded band combinations and the at least one UE capability. The UE may thus report downgraded band combinations for a subset of supported band combinations as requested by the base station, thereby minimizing capability reporting of the UE.

Abstract: In wireless communication networks using carrier aggregation including a secondary component carrier in unlicensed spectrum, a user equipment (UE) may monitor a downlink radio link quality of secondary cells for an event indicating failure of a communication link in the unlicensed spectrum with a secondary cell. The UE detects one or more failure events based on the downlink radio link quality. When a designated set of failure events is detected, the UE declares a failure state on the secondary cell. In response to the failure state, the UE may adjust operations related to the secondary component carrier in the unlicensed spectrum in order to save power and resources.
