摘要: A method of cleaning residue from a surface using a disposable cellulosic wiper that includes from about 25% or more by weight of pulp-derived papermaking fibers. The pulp-derived papermaking fibers have a characteristic scattering coefficient of less than 50 m2/kg. The wiper also has from about 25% to about 75% by weight of fibrillated regenerated independent cellulosic microfibers. The fibers are finer than 14 mesh, have a characteristic Canadian Standard Freeness (CSF) value of less than 175 ml, have a number average diameter of less than about 2 microns, and are present in amounts such that the wiper exhibits a scattering coefficient of greater than 50 m2/kg. The wiper is applied, with a predetermined amount of pressure, to a residue-bearing surface. The surface is wiped with the applied wiper to remove residue from the surface, such that the surface has less than 1 g/m2 of residue after being wiped.

摘要: A method of and apparatus for attaching a spout to a planar portion of an article such as a milk or juice carton, which may be integrated into conventional carton forming and filling machines, includes the steps of heating a stem of a spout, applying a bonding agent to a flange on the spout, positioning the spout in a predetermined relation to a spout applicator, positioning a carton with a hole provided in a predetermined relation to the spout applicator and attaching the spout to the carton where the heated stem is deformed to mechanically engage the carton about the hole. An apparatus to accomplish the method is also disclosed.

摘要: A method and apparatus for attaching a spout to a planar portion of a container, such as a milk or juice container, which may be incorporated in a conventional conveyor line. The method includes the steps of successively positioning the container at three stations, first, where a hole is punched, second, where a bonding agent is applied, and third, where the spout is installed on the container. An apparatus for carrying out the method includes mechanisms for positioning the container at each station relative to an edge of the container so that the operation can be performed on the container.

摘要: Certain substituted phenolic compounds when used with or without 1,2-epoxides as the sole stabilizer components are very effective in stabilizing n-propyl bromide (NPB). In a standard commercially important 60° C. stability test, representative substituted phenolic compounds used pursuant to this invention, can enable NPB to pass the test even though present at levels of about 50 ppm (wt/wt) or less in NPB containing no other stabilizer additive component. In fact, amounts as low as 1 ppm have been found effective with various substituted phenolic compounds. In addition, it has been found that one of the preferred stabilizers of this invention—2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol—even though higher boiling than NPB, left inconsequential amounts of residue at least throughout the range of 1 to 30 ppm (wt/wt). Also, it has been found that certain other preferred stabilizers of this invention can provide synergistically improved stability in passing the 60° C. stability test when used with at least one 1,2-epoxide, notably butylene oxide.
