Abstract:
A device and a method for simultaneous recording, in real time, parameters characterising the mechanical tension, elasticity, dynamical stiffness, creepability and mechanical stress of soft biological tissue are provided. By means of the myometer, a constant external pre-pressure is created, independently of the device's position, between the tissue and the testing end of the device. Next, the tissue is subjected to a short-term external dynamic influence. A mechanical change in the shape of the tissue and its mechanical response are registered as a graph of the tissue's oscillations. For calculating the parameters, a time span on the graph is used which involves an oscillation period from the beginning to the end of the effect on the tissue plus its subsequent first 1.5 self-oscillation period. This enables recording and data-processing to be carried out simultaneously as well as statistically significant estimates to be made in real time.

The tool also includes a Babinski reflex hammer detachably connected to one of the handles, a Taylor reflex hammer having a first portion connected to one of the handles and a second portion connected to the opposing handle, a slide ruler attached to one of the shanks, and a pupil dilator light attached to one of the shanks.
Abstract:
A viscoelasticity measuring apparatus that measures viscoelasticity of a measurement target with high precision is provided. The measuring apparatus includes: a casing; a surface contact part provided in the casing and brought into surface contact with skin; a ball indenter that moves toward the skin more than the surface contact part and is pushed into the skin; a driving unit that supports the ball indenter and moves the ball indenter toward the skin; a load cell whose right end side is fixed to the casing and left end side supports the driving unit, the load cell detecting a pushing load that pushes the ball indenter into the skin; and a control unit that obtains displacement of the ball indenter.
Abstract:
A device and method for the non-invasive measurement of state of tension, biomechanical and viscoelastic properties of surfaces of soft biological tissues includes electronic, digital and mechanical elements and sensors, and a testing end. The elements within the housing can subject the testing end to a mechanical impulse force, and can sense the movement of the testing end. The testing end has a contact surface which can be adhered to the surface of the soft biological tissue, and subjected to a mechanical force in a direction parallel to the surface.
Abstract:
A non-contact apparatus for a stability assessment of a dental implant is provided. The non-contact apparatus includes a triggering device and a dental implant containing a root body and an impact generating device, wherein the root body has a cavity, the impact generating device is located in the cavity, and the triggering device provides a non-contact impetus for triggering the impact generating device.
Abstract:
A compact diagnostic neurological tool comprising a two-point discriminator; a brush; and a sharp-dull instrument; wherein the two-point discriminator, the brush, and the sharp-dull instrument are all housed within a case; wherein the two-point discriminator, the brush, and the sharp-dull instrument are all retractable; wherein the two-point discriminator comprises two tines, and wherein the distance between the tines can be increased by extending the two-point discriminator and decreased by retracting the two-point discriminator. The case is preferably rectangular in shape and roughly five inches long, one and one-quarter inches wide, and one-half inch thick.
Abstract:
A method for measuring the acoustic damping capacity of a material or structure, such as a layered honeycomb structure, comprises tapping the honeycomb structure with a tapping rod. The tapping action imparts mechanical energy to the honeycomb structure. The method further comprises measuring, for a time interval, energy reflected from the honeycomb structure as a result of the tapping. The method further comprises creating a time-energy profile based on the energy reflected from the honeycomb structure during the time interval. The method further comprises evaluating the time-energy profile to determine the acoustic damping capacity of the honeycomb structure.
Abstract:
Diagnosis or treatment of myofascial trigger points and/or other tissue using focused or radial shockwaves. A shockwave emitter for such use is disclosed also.
