Abstract: A method and/or system are provided for improving kidney function and/or increasing Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) of the renal system, by applying acoustic and/or ultrasonic energy to one or more of the kidneys. The method suggests either focused or non-focused (or combined) energy delivery, optionally in a noninvasive approach, which could also be implemented invasively and/or by implantable device.
Potential applications of this technique, include, but are not restricted to, treatment of renal disorders such as CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) and/or AKI (Acute Kidney Injury), short term or long term intervention in kidney function for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes, modifying urine output in heart failure, modulating blood volume and/or pressure, and modulating clearance of compounds in the blood are typically difficult to extract from the kidneys, such as iodine, other imaging contrast media, and similar compounds.-

Abstract: Methods and systems confirm the treatment focus location of ultrasound energy to be delivered to a patient from a plurality of transducers. The location of focus of treatment ultrasound may be confirmed prior to the start of ultrasound therapy. In some embodiments, ultrasound therapy may comprise delivering treatment ultrasound energy from the treatment ultrasound transducers through the skull to the brain of a patient. Methods for confirming the treatment ultrasound focus location comprise determining receive focus profiles ϕx,vi for particular candidate three-dimensional (3D) treatment focus locations and particular assumed ultrasound propagation velocity profiles; performing a pre-treatment (e.g. low-power) ultrasound transmission into the brain of the patient; receiving return signals; and determining the location of treatment focus based at least in part on the received return signals and the receive focus profiles ϕx,vi.

Abstract: A system for ultrasound brain treatment through modulation and control of emission of an ultrasound beam. The ultrasound beam includes an ultrasound probe, an ultrasound device, and a processing unit. The ultrasound probe performs an ultrasound scan and collects a stream of ultrasound images of a part of a patient's brain. The ultrasound device selectively modulates and controls the emission of an ultrasound beam on the basis of a desired treatment procedure for the part of the brain. The processing unit, which is in data communication with the ultrasound probe and with the ultrasound device, includes a sampling module, a graphics processing module, and a calculation module. The sampling module samples the stream of ultrasound images collected by the ultrasound probe. The graphic processing module performs a first step of graphic processing of the sampled frames by generating an analysis grid composed of a plurality of cells and elaborating a distribution map of targets to be treated with ultrasound within the part of the patient's brain. The distribution map of targets refers to the plurality of cells. The calculation module determines the ultrasound modulation and control parameters of the ultrasound device on the basis of the desired treatment procedure and the distribution map of targets.

Abstract: The present discussion relates to structures and devices to facilitate application of an ultrasound therapy beam to a target anatomic region in a replicable manner. In certain aspects, adjustable positioning structures are described that allow a general probe positioning structure to be configured for a specific patient in a manner that allows the device to be used repeatedly to target the anatomic region, even when in non-clinical settings. In other aspects, a probe positioning structure is fabricated that is specific to a respective patient anatomy, such that use of the probe positioning structure provides repeatable targeting of the target anatomic region, even when in non-clinical settings.

Abstract: In accordance with the present disclosure, ultrasound-based techniques using a combined scanning and treatment array module are employed to find and treat anomalies corresponding to bleed events. By way of example, ultrasound data may be acquired with a scanning array at one or more locations on a patient anatomy. A treatment array may deliver heat to a targeted anomaly to provide therapy. Such a technique may be useful outside of a hospital environment.
