Abstract:
Dynamic range enhancement methods and systems for display for use welding applications are described. A display system in a dynamic range enhancement system can include, for example, a splitter, a high density filter, a low density filter, a first image sensor, a second image sensor, a graphical circuit, and a display. The high density filter and the first image sensor can be disposed in a first path. The low density filter and the second image sensor can be disposed in a second path. The first image sensor can receive filtered electromagnetic waves from the high density filter. The second image sensor can receive filtered electromagnetic waves from the low density filter. The graphic circuit can combine the signals from the first image sensor and the second image sensor to provide a high dynamic range image or video that is displayed on the display of a welding helmet, for example.
Abstract:
A method of repairing defect in cast iron workpiece, including: machining the workpiece in the area of the defect to remove the defective material and form a chamber opening at a surface of the workpiece; anchoring a receptacle to the workpiece above the chamber (2), the receptacle is provided with an orifice in communication with the chamber; adding molten iron (4) into the receptacle so that it at least part of it flows into the chamber; adding slagging agent (5) into the receptacle; heating the slagging agent and the molten iron with an electrode (6); adding nodulizing agent into the molten iron so as to segregate graphite; and allowing the molten iron and the workpiece to cool down slowly. The above-described technique also has applicability for connecting two cast iron workpieces (11, 12) together.
Abstract:
In an abrasion resistant welded steel pipe, each of a base material and a weld metal contains specific amounts of chemical composition. The base material of the abrasion resistant welded steel pipe has a Vickers hardness within the range of 150 to 250, and the weld metal has a Vickers hardness within the range of 230 to 350. A weld heat affected zone in the abrasion resistant welded steel pipe has a Vickers hardness within the range of 150 to 350. In the weld metal, the dispersion density of a sulfide having an aspect ratio of 5 or more and containing at least one selected from Fe, Mn, and Ti is 10 grains/mm2 or less. The abrasion resistant welded steel pipe that can be produced at high productivity and low cost with no reduction in weld crack resistance can be provided.

Abstract:
A system and method for welding spliced vertical box columns with an electroslag welding system. The system includes a welding fixture having opposing, paired and positionally adjustable welding shoes, run-off tabs, and sumps affixed at the junction of box columns to be spliced. A distributed control electroslag welding system, articulating boom, welding torch and consumable guide tube oscillator feed provide molten flux within the shoes filling from the sump to the run-off tab.
Abstract:
A method of welding two members together wherein welding material is melted in an electrically heated molten slag, and forms a pool of molten welding material beneath the molten slag. The end surfaces of the two members are in contact with the molten weld material and are melted to bond with the weld material.
Abstract:
The invention is a consumable guide tube comprising a thin first elongated strip, a second elongated strip and a plurality of insulators. The thin first elongated strip has a front face and a back face and the front face has at least one longitudinal channel. The second elongated strip has a front face and a back face and the front face of the second elongated strip is configured to be coupled to the front face of the thin first elongated strip. The plurality of insulator modules are deposited on the back face of the thin first elongated strip and on the back face of the second elongated strip. Preferably, the thin first elongated strip is a low carbon cold rolled steel strip, and the second elongated strip is a low carbon hot rolled steel strip. The guide tube can also be configured to comprise two or more longitudinal channels.
Abstract:
A method of fabricating a structural member such as a wicket gate for water turbines by electro slag forming comprises the steps of mounting a water-cooled metal mold on a part of a previously formed structural member, such as a stem; melting electrodes inserted in the water-cooled metal mold to form the other part of the structural member such as a vane portion of the wicket gate on the previously formed structural member. The previously formed structural member has a concave portion which is exposed in the water-cooled metal mold and the water-cooled metal mold is mounted so as to contact with the previously formed structural member at the lower portion than the top of the concave portion. The previously formed structural member is melted gradually from the central portion of the concave to the outer periphery and then such a portion as the vane portion is formed by molten metal of the electrode.
Abstract:
In an apparatus for electroslag welding of steel sheets with the aid of at least one wire electrode pair, a welding gap defined between the electrodes of the electrode pair, current-carrying conduits for the electrode pair, and a supply tube for supplying metal in a powdered state, and welding flux into the welding gap, the improvement includes a shielding device creating a duct along the current-carrying conduits. The duct, owing to the shielding device, is substantially free of any magnetic field, and the supply tube is positioned in the duct.
