    摘要: An output circuit for a microwave tube is provided that has generally high interaction impedance for good efficiency, has high average power capability, and is physically large for a given operating frequency. The output circuit is designed to operate in conjunction with an off-axis, bunched electron beam. Electromagnetic fields are applied to the region in which the electron beam propagates to impart an azimuthal velocity to the bunched electron beam. The electron bunches then interact synchronously with a resonant output structure to excite radio-frequency modes from which energy can be extracted and applied to a load.

    摘要: An output power adjusting mechanisms for adjusting output power is provided on a wave guide of a high frequency output section coupled to an output cavity. The output power adjusting mechanisms is located at a position apart away from the output cavity by a distance of ⅛ wavelength or [(⅛ wavelength)×odd number]. The output power adjusting mechanism includes a reflection adjusting part which is provided in the tube wall of the wave guide so as to be displaceable in the inward and outward directions of the output tube. The output power is adjusted by displacing the reflection adjusting part.

    摘要: A niobium cavity exhibiting high quality factors at high gradients is provided by treating a niobium cavity through a process comprising: 1) removing surface oxides by plasma etching or a similar process; 2) removing hydrogen or other gases absorbed in the bulk niobium by high temperature treatment of the cavity under ultra high vacuum to achieve hydrogen outgassing; and 3) assuring the long term chemical stability of the niobium cavity by applying a passivating layer of a superconducting material having a superconducting transition temperature higher than niobium thereby reducing losses from electron (cooper pair) scattering in the near surface region of the interior of the niobium cavity. According to a preferred embodiment, the passivating layer comprises niobium nitride (NbN) applied by reactive sputtering.

    摘要: A novel method of gating electron emission from field-emitter cathodes for radio frequency (RF) electrode guns and a novel cathode that provides a focused electron beam without the need for magnetic fields or a curved cathode surface are provided. The phase and strength of a predefined harmonic field, such as the 3rd harmonic field, are adjusted relative to a fundamental field to cause a field emission cathode to emit electrons at predefined times for the generation of high-brightness electron beams. The emission time is gated responsive to the combined harmonic and fundamental fields and the response of the FE cathode to the combined fields. A planar focusing cathode includes a selected dielectric material, such as a ceramic material, to provide an electron beam emission surface. Metal surfaces are provided both radially around and behind the dielectric material to shape the electric fields that accelerate and guide the beam from the cathode surface.

    摘要: A vacuum tube for handling an r.f. signal having a predetermined frequency range comprises a cathode, a heater, and a non-electron emissive grid. The grid is positioned from the cathode by the distance an emitted electron from the cathode can travel in a quarter cycle of the r.f. signal. Outer and inner metal tubes forming a resonant line of a signal coupler are respectively connected to the grid and cathode. R.F. absorbers absorb r.f. fields in an interaction region between an anode and the grid. In one embodiment a coupling loop is between metal tubes at an end of the tubes spaced n.lambda./4 from the grid and cathode. In a second embodiment the coupler includes a coaxial line having an inner conductor connected to a first metal face, spaced from a second opposed metal face by a solid dielectric. An outer conductor is connected to a third metal face, spaced from a fourth opposed metal face by the dielectric. The third and fourth faces surround the first and second faces. The first and third faces are at ground potential while the second and fourth faces are at high negative DC voltages. The second and fourth faces are respectively at common ends of interior and exterior coaxial metal tubes forming a .lambda./2 coupler. Hollow inductive structures extend between the inner and outer metal tubes and at different locations along the tubes. Bias leads may be inserted into the inductive structures for shielding.
