摘要: The present apparatus facilitates feeding a particulate vitreous material, such as glass or enamel, into a horizontally rotating tubular article, such as a tank or vessel, heated to the fusion point of the vitreous material, usually temperatures of 1500.degree. F. or above, to coat the article with a fused coating. The present boom is comprised of a rigid elongated outer tube having a downstream end and an upstream end, the downstream end is adapted to be directed into the interior of the article that is to be coated. The elongated outer tube encloses an elongated, rigid feed tube, suitably concentrically positioned therein. The feed tube has a means of receiving and transporting a supply of finely divided vitreous material, e.g., glass frit, therethrough. A distributing means such as a nozzle or spray head, is positioned in the downstream end of the outer tube and internally connected to the feed tube. The apparatus has internal cooling ducts, formed by an elongated, rigid tube positioned intermediate to the feed tube and the outer tube, preferably aligned concentrically with each. The ducts facilitate circulation of a supply of cooling medium, such as air, through the boom. The outer portion of the boom is covered with a layer of low mass insulation. The outside of the insulation may suitably be covered with a reflective surface, such as particulate magnesium oxide.

摘要: This invention relates to the mounting of vanes on a runnerhead of an abrasive blasting machine. The face of the runnerhead is provided with slots in which bases of vanes are slid in a generally radial direction with the base having an interlock with the runnerhead so as to retain the vane against movement normal to the face of the runnerhead. This invention particularly has to do with the locking of the vane base in the runnerhead slot. A locking pin is used which is preferably rectangular as opposed to the usual circular pin and the outer ends of the runnerhead slot and vane base are provided with cooperating slots and grooves which receive the pin, the pin being inserted in a first groove and slot arrangement at an angle to the axis of the base and then rotated or pivoted into a second groove and slot arrangement where it is locked in place against retrieval. The pin is locked in place by the outwardly movement of the vane from its pin inserting position. Certain embodiments of the invention have a safety feature in when the vane is in the pin receiving position, the inner end of the vane will engage a lug case on the outside of the impeller case so as to prevent rotation of the runnerhead.

摘要: In accord with the present invention, a composite ceramic article may be produced by joining separate components of ceramic materials with a cement or brazing compound of finely-divided metal borides, such as Mo.sub.2 B.sub.5, MoB.sub.2, TiB.sub.2, GeB.sub.2, ZrB.sub.2, SmB.sub.6, NbB.sub.2, HfB, VB.sub.2, WB.sub.2 or TaB.sub.2. A particularly useful metal boride for use with silicon carbide is Mo.sub.2 B.sub.5.If the metal carbide parts or components to be joined are sintered, the metal boride cement is selected to have a melting point within 150.degree. C., but less than the sintering temperature of the metal carbide. If the metal carbide parts or components to be joined are unsintered, or an unsintered component is to be joined to a sintered component, the metal boride cement is selected to have a melting point slightly higher than the sintering temperature of the metal carbide components to be joined.

摘要: This invention relates to an electrical element support system that utilizes a series of ceramic hanger elements of generally rectangular cross-section which are adapted to be inserted into a clip which is attached by welding or bolting to the furnace wall. The clip provides bearing surfaces which match surfaces on the hanger element to provide support for the electrical element which is carried at the end of the support. The outer end of the hanger element generally has a hook or other device which is adapted to hold a particular electrical heating element.

摘要: Molten molybdenum-copper-iron-sulfur mattes or alloys, obtained, for example, by reacting slags or other copper-molybdenum containing oxide residues or waste materials witn an iron and/or sulfide reductant, are enriched in molybdenum and copper by a pyrometallurgical process. The molten matte or alloy material is first carburized whereupon a copper-rich matte phase separates from the alloy phase and is removed. The molten alloy phase is next treated one or more times by the addition of sulfur or pyrite resulting in the formation of additional copper-rich matte as a separate phase which is separated after each treatment, leaving an alloy of molybdenum and iron of reduced Cu content. Finally the alloy is desulfurized to provide a commercial product.

摘要: A composite, neutron absorbing, coated article, normally flat and thin and of comparatively light weight, suitable for installation in storage racks for spent nuclear fuel and for other neutron absorbing applications, includes a backing member, preferably of flexible material such as woven fiberglass cloth, a synthetic organic polymeric coating or a plurality of such coatings on the backing member, preferably of cured phenolic resin, such as phenol formaldehyde or trimethylolphenol formaldehyde and boron carbide particles held to the backing member by the cured coating or a plurality of such coatings. Also described is a method for the manufacture of the neutron absorbing coated article and the use of such an article. In a preferred method the backing member is first coated on both sides thereof with a filling coating of thermosettable liquid phenolic resin, which is then partially cured to solid state, one side of the backing member is then coated with a mixture of thermosettable liquid resin and finely divided boron carbide particles and the resin is partially cured to solid state, the other side is coated with a similar mixture, larger boron carbide particles are applied to it and the resin is partially cured to solid state, such side of the article is coated with thermosettable liquid phenolic resin, the resin is partially cured to solid state and such resin, including previously applied partially cured resins, is cured to final cross-linked and permanently set form.
