摘要: A diffractive device has a surface relief structure which, when illuminated by a light source, generates one or more diffraction images which are observable from particular ranges of viewing angles around the device. The device includes background diffractive structural elements and interstitial diffractive structural elements. The interstitial elements are interspersed between the background elements such that the diffractive action of the background elements is modulated by the interstital elements, with differing interstitial element configuration in differing parts of the surface relief structure producing differing diffraction effects in corresponding parts of the diffraction images.

摘要: A pixellated diffractive device includes a multiplicity of pixels (12,22) in turn divided into multiple sub-pixels (13,23). The device is related to one or more pixellated diffraction surface structures which when illuminated generate respective corresponding optically variable images. The sub-pixels (13,23) of each pixel of the diffractive device include diffractive elements (13a,23a) arranged in one or more groups, the diffractive elements of each group matching diffractive elements of a corresponding single pixel of the respective pixellated diffraction surface structures. In each pixel of the device the diffractive elements (13a,23a) of the or each said group are intermixed with other sub-pixels and cooperatively contribute a single element of the corresponding optically variable image which is generated on illumination of the diffractive device.

摘要: A method and apparatus for analyzing and monitoring packet streams in “real time”. The packet analyzer comprises an input buffer, a real-time analysis unit, a non-real-time analysis unit, a graphics unit, a monitor and a flushing circuit. A packet stream is received into the input buffer where the data is either read by the real-time analysis unit or flushed by the flushing circuit. Messages are passed between the real-time analysis unit and the non-real-time analysis unit to report on detected errors or to update packet stream information. In turn, real time packet stream information are displayed and updated on a display via the graphic unit. A method of detecting framing errors in a packet stream is incorporated by setting a 9th bit in the input buffer for each byte of data in a packet.

摘要: Foot controller apparatus is characterized by providing for remote foot control by a minimum size foot pedal device of the flow of compressed air to an air driven dental handpiece or the like without the necessity of bulky air lines passing through or the incorporation of complicated electrical or mechanical mechanisms in the foot pedal device, as follows. An outwardly biased, depressible foot pedal device includes a diaphragm therein for forming an air sealed chamber which reduces in volume upon depression of the foot pedal device and conveys an air flow through an elongate tube to a diaphragm operated, air modulating, regulator valve positioned away from the foot pedal device and in the compressed air conduit leading to the dental handpiece for pneumatically operating the valve to control the flow of compressed air to the dental handpiece for driving same. The apparatus may also preferably include a diaphragm operated electrical switch mechanism electrically connected with electrically operated valves in chip air and coolant water conduits to the handpiece and with the foot pedal air tube for being pneumatically operated by the foot pedal device for controlling the flow of chip air and coolant water through the dental handpiece.

A treatment chair includes an occupant supporting assembly, a base assembly, and an elevator assembly including drive mechanisms for raising and lowering the occupant supporting assembly. An instrument console has a tray assembly for carrying instruments and the like, a base assembly, and an elevator assembly including drive mechanisms for raising and lowering the tray assembly. Control mechanisms are connected with both of the drive mechanisms for selectively (1) simultaneously raising or lowering or (2) independently raising or lowering of the treatment chair and the instrument console. An auxiliary instrument console may be provided which includes a tray assembly, a base assembly and an elevator assembly having drive mechanisms for raising and lowering of the tray assembly, and the control mechanisms also operate to simultaneously raise or lower the auxiliary instrument console with the primary instrument console and treatment chair or provide for independent raising and lowering of the auxiliary instrument console.

摘要: A lubricant feed system for use in lubricating the cutting attachments of a chain saw having an internal combustion engine and a lubricant tank. The feed system has a system of passageways permitting flow of lubricant from the tank to the guide bar. A check valve and a manually operable plunger are positioned in the passageway and spaced from each other to define a first chamber. The check valve permits flow from the tank to the bar pad and is openable by pressure in the tank. A metering valve for regulating the flow from the check valve to the bar pad is reciprocable between a closed and an opened position. The reciprocation and thus the position of the valve are controllable by manually operable means extending from the metering valve to the exterior. The metering valve has means to urge it to the closed position. The urging means exerts a force that can be overcome by operation of the plunger. There are means to permit the metering valve to move to a fully open position by the operation of the plunger regardless of the position of the metering valve. Thus operation of the plunger closes the check valve, opens fully the metering valve and forces lubricant contained in the first chamber through the system of passageways to clear any obstruction in said passageways.

摘要: Apparatus to examine a magnetic storage layer expected to contain a magnetic watermark includes means to magnetize the layer with a unidirectional field of a selected strength without saturating it and means to detect any distinct region of magnetic remanence. The apparatus may further include means to record the resultant remanence levels (or their ratio) for such a region and another part of the layer, means to magnetize the layer with a unidirectional field of a different selected strength, means to detect any then-existing such distinct region or regions, means to measure the remanence levels (or their ratio) for the then-existing such region and another part of the layer, and means to compare the measured and recorded levels (or their ratios) and indicate from the result of the comparison whether or not this represents a layer having a magnetic watermark of regions of distinctly aligned anisotropic magnetic particles. The use of different amounts of magnetization will produce different ratios of remanence in a layer having such a watermark but not in an homogenous layer.

摘要: This invention relates to a method of preparing polyurethane foam which comprises the steps of forming an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer by reacting a polyisocyanate with a copolymer having an --OH-functionality greater than 2.00 but less than 3.00 derived from an .epsilon.-caprolactone, an epoxide and a mixture polyhydric alcohol chain initiators; and reacting said prepolymer in the presence of a blowing agent and a catalyst with a reactant mixture which comprises a chain extending agent having at least two functional groups each containing an active hydrogen atom, dissolved in a liquid copolymer of a lactone and an epoxide. The polyurethane foams are useful in the manufacture of shoe soles.
