It is intended to provide an anti-inflammatory agent made from a highly safe material which can be daily taken as a food, an agent for preventing or ameliorating allergic diseases and a functional food having the above-mentioned effects. The anti-inflammatory agent contains an α-bond galactooligosaccharide as the active ingredient. The agent for preventing or ameliorating allergic diseases contains an α-bond galactooligosaccharide as the active ingredient. The functional food contains an α-bond galactooligosaccharide as the active ingredient. As such α-bond galactooligosaccharide, use can be made of a product synthesized by the dehydration condensation reaction by α-galactosidase with the use of galactose or galactose-containing substance as a substrate.

There is provided a laminate comprising a hard coat layer having the outermost surface to which slipperiness has been imparted. The laminate comprises a transparent substrate and a hard coat layer provided on said transparent substrate. The hard coat layer is formed of a cured product of a composition comprising a fluorine-modified urethane acrylate and/or a polydimethylsiloxane having a polyether-modified acryl or polyether group.

In an active noise control apparatus in which an audio signal and a noise control signal are mixed to thereby sound a loudspeaker inside a motor vehicle, a general-purpose audio head unit cannot conventionally be freely changed for the one already mounted on the motor vehicle. As a solution, an active noise control unit is provided with a buffer amplifier and a mixer. An audio signal amplified by a power amplifier in an audio head unit is adjusted in level by the buffer amplifier such that a level of an audio signal outputted after amplification by the first amplifier becomes substantially equal to a level of the audio signal outputted from the audio head unit. Then, at the mixer, a noise control signal outputted from an active noise controller is added to an audio signal outputted from the buffer amplifier. Therefore, any audio head unit can be freely changed for the one already mounted on the vehicle as long as the audio head unit contains therein a power amplifier.

A semiconductor device of one chip has a first power supply terminal allowing connection with an external power supply IC, a second power supply terminal allowing connection with the external power supply IC, a main voltage dropping circuit connected with the first power supply terminal, a secondary voltage dropping circuit connected with the second power supply terminal, and an internal circuit connected with the main voltage dropping circuit and the secondary voltage dropping circuit. A high voltage of the external power supply IC is received in the main voltage dropping circuit through the first power supply terminal and is dropped. The high or low voltage of the external power supply IC is received in the secondary voltage dropping circuit through the second power supply terminal and is dropped. The internal circuit is operated by using the dropped voltage obtained in the main or secondary voltage dropping circuit.

A specimen of thin film of a material having a crystal structure and exhibiting an absorption in ultraviolet region is irradiated with electron beams and the energy loss spectrum of the reflected electrons is observed and utilized. For example, the correlations of (1) the energy of the plasmon peak and the relative intensity of the plasmon peak to the elastic peak or the profile thereof, (2) the energy (loss energy being between 4 and 8 eV) of the peak attributed to &pgr;→&pgr;* transition and the relative intensity of the &pgr;→&pgr;* peak to the elastic peak or the profile thereof and (3) the profile of the background of the continuous spectrum formed by inelastic scattering of electrons or the relative intensity of a point to the elastic peak and the average crystallite size of the material of the specimen are used to determine the crystallite size of the material.

In a solution for forming electron-emitting regions of electron-emitting devices, the solution contains a metal carboxylate expressed by the following general formula (I), an organic solvent and/or water; (R(COO).sub.k).sub.m M (I) where k=numeral from 1 to 4, m=numeral from 1 to 4, and R=C.sub.n X.sub.2n+1-k where X=hydrogen or halogen (total number of hydrogen and halogen atoms is 2n+1), n=integer from 0 to 30, and M=metal. In a manufacture method of electron-emitting devices each provided between electrodes with a conductive film including an electron-emitting region, a process of forming the conductive film includes a step of coating and calcining the above solution. An image-forming apparatus is manufactured by using the electron-emitting devices. Variations in sheet resistance values of electron-emitting region-forming thin films and characteristics of the electron-emitting devices are reduced.

The frame member supports the liquid crystal panel and the circuit board in a planar manner with its inner wall surfaces. The flexible printed circuit is disposed inside the frame member without being exposed therefrom.

An active noise controller includes a prediction filter which includes a delayer for delaying the noise or error detection signal by a predetermined period of time, a first adaptive filter for processing the output of the delayer to deliver its periodic component, and a subtractor for subtracting the output of the first adaptive filter from the noise detection signal to deliver a random component of the signal. More specifically, the prediction filter is capable of dividing the noise or error detection signal into two, periodic and random, components. In addition, two, second and third, adaptive filters are provided for processing the periodic and random components respectively. Accordingly, the second and third adaptive filters become responsive precisely to their respective periodic and random components regardless of the ratio in level between the two components, whereby any undesired noise consisting of the two discrete components will be suppressed.
