Abstract:
In a receiver, a frequency-synthesis circuit (SYNTH) generates a stepped-frequency signal (Ssf) having a frequency which can be varied in steps. A synchronization circuit (LOOP) synchronizes a tuning oscillator (LO) with the stepped-frequency signal (Ssf). It provides an integer frequency-relationship between the stepped-frequency signal (Ssf) and the tuning oscillator (LO). That is, if the stepped-frequency signal (Ssf) has a frequency Fsf, the tuning oscillator (LO) will operate at a frequency FlonullNnullFsf, N being an integer or an integer fraction.
Abstract:
A cathode ray tube device in which two deflection yokes and two electron guns are used, but in which only one shadow mask is used. Image uniformity is obtained by creating a partial overlap of the two images created by the two yokes.
Abstract:
A recording arrangement (1) for receiving and recording a television signal (F) and for receiving an information signal (I) which contains television program information (FPI), for example, title information about future television programs. The recording arrangement (1) has a keyword detector (54) which derives at least one keyword characteristic of the fields of interest of the user from title information of a television program recorded by the recording arrangement (1). A selector (58) selects, from the title information of future television programs, which is contained in the television program information (FPI), the title information containing at least one detected keyword. Selected television programs can be displayed on a display device (3) or can be recorded automatically.
Abstract:
An apparatus for detecting scene changes (as distinct from shot cuts or edit points) in audio/video signals is disclosed, together with video recording and logging apparatus employing such detection. The means for detecting scene changes comprises a filtering arrangement (20) which receives and filters the audio soundtrack accompanying the video signal to periodically determine a background audio signal level. By comparison (24) of current and previously determined (22) background levels, a scene change (SC) is flagged when the current background audio level differs from a previous background level by more than a predetermined amount. A table of scene change locations may then be built up and stored with the video and audio data.
Abstract:
In a system like a PC, the function of a graphics card is included with the monitor. A processor sends update signals to the monitor to modify image content. The graphics card processes the update signals and applies corrections to the updates to correct for physical imperfections of imaging process of the monitor. The graphic card writes the results into an image memory. The content of the image memory is used to drive the monitor.
Abstract:
In a transmission system comprising a transmitter (4) coupled via a transmission channel (10) to a receiver (6). The transmitter (4) comprises a channel encoder (14) for deriving encoded symbols from source symbols. The receiver (6) comprises a channel decoder (28) for reconstructing the source symbols from the signal received from the transmission channel (10). According to the present invention, the transmitter (4) comprises a separate encoder for coding and transmitting a coding property used in the channel encoder (14) to the receiver (6). The receiver (6) is arranged for receiving the encoded coding property from the transmission medium, and the separate channel decoder (26) is arranged for decoding the encoded coding property. The coding property provided by the separate channel decoder (26) is passed to setting means (27) in the channel decoder (28) for setting the coding property of the channel decoder (28).
Abstract:
A semiconductor wafer (1) has a multitude of chips (5), of which chips (5) each one of a given number of chips (5) is situated in one of a multitude of adjacent exposure fields (2), and further has process control modules (4) which are each arranged in an exposure field (2), namely each in place of at least one chip (5).
Abstract:
A point-to-point communications device (SS) which is capable of generating melodic alerts, each alert being generated using numeric data in a received message. The device includes a controller (36) programmed with an algorithm for dividing the digits in a decoded message into one or two digit fields. One digit fields are used respectively to determine the tempo (t) and the number of times (p) a sequence of notes is played and two digit fields are used to select notes.
Abstract:
A network communications system comprises a number of user stations (10,24), coupled via a data network (12) to a number of service provider host systems (14,16). The user stations (10) are registered as client stations at the host system (16) of a service provider, with the host system maintaining a database of registered client station identification data. The host system additionally maintains a directory of the client stations that are on-line at a given time, determined from periodic messages sent to the host by each client station. Callers (24,28) wishing to contact a client station (10) user first contact the service provider (16) which, from the directory, determines whether the user is currently on-line. If so, a paging message is generated by the service provider from data supplied by the caller and sent via the network (12) to the client station (10), the address of which is held in the service provider database.
Abstract:
A method and device for the manufacture of a hollow cone (37) with a cone tip (31) whereby a parison of viscous material (35) is moulded into the shape of the hollow cone. An escape space (11) becomes accessible to the material in the vicinity of a cone tip to be formed. The moment the pressure present in the material in the vicinity of the cone tip to be formed exceeds a previously defined value. Breaking-off of the cone tip during or after moulding is prevented by this. The hollow cone is suitable inter alia for use in a cathode ray tube.
