Abstract:
The invention provides devices and systems for treating lungs. One aspect of the invention provides a lung device with an expandable member having an open lumen formed therethrough, the expandable (e.g., inflatable and compliant) member having an expanded diameter adapted to contact a circumferential wall portion of a lung air passageway. The device may also include a plug adapted to close the open lumen and a coupler adapted to couple the plug and the expandable member. Another aspect of the invention provides a lung device and delivery system including: an expandable member having an open lumen formed therethrough, the expandable member having an expanded diameter adapted to fit within a lung air passageway; and a delivery catheter adapted to deliver the expandable member to a lung air passageway, the delivery catheter having a coupler adapted to couple the catheter to the expandable member.
Abstract:
Graphical Paging Unit, a System Including Graphical Paging Units and the Use of Those. The invention disclosed here includes a graphical dedicated receiving unit, a patron paging system with improved capabilities and a method for using that system to deliver marketing messages to waiting patrons as well as to perform other functions. The object of this system and its use are to provide a superior experience for waiting patrons and allow the advantage to the establishment of allowing marketing. That marketing may include messages promoting the establishment using the system or other establishments. Some embodiments of the invention include other features.
Abstract:
The present invention defines a new protocol for communicating with an offload engine that provides Transmission Control Protocol (“TCP”) termination over a Fibre Channel (“FC”) fabric. The offload engine terminates all protocols up to and including TCP and performs the processing associated with those layers. The offload protocol guarantees delivery and is encapsulated within FCP-formatted frames. Thus, the TCP streams are reliably passed to the host. Additionally, using this scheme, the offload engine can provide parsing of the TCP stream to further assist the host. The present invention also provides network devices (and components thereof) that are configured to perform the foregoing methods. The invention further defines how network attached storage (“NAS”) protocol data units (“PDUs”) are parsed and delivered.
Abstract:
Bioanalytical device that includes a biofunctional component and an optional sensor component. The device includes arrays of addressable, durable, asymmetric biofunctional membranes containing protein transducers capable of unidirectional transport of analytes. Suitable protein transducers include members of the ATP-binding cassette family, such as P-glycoprotein.
Abstract:
Devices and methods are directed to improving the gaseous exchange in a lung of an individual having, for instance, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. More particularly, conduits may be deployed in the lung to maintain collateral openings (or channels) surgically created through airway walls. This tends to facilitate both the exchange of oxygen ultimately into the blood and decompress hyper-inflated lungs.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods of treating anorexia or low bone mass in females exhibiting aggressive athletic behavior, the methods comprising administering to a patient in need thereof a 2-alkylidene-19-nor-vitamin D derivative. Particularly, the present invention relates to methods of treating anorexia or low bone mass in females exhibiting aggressive athletic behavior, the methods comprising administering to a patient in need thereof 2-methylene-19-nor-20(S)-1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods of enhancing peak bone mass in adolescence, the methods comprising administering to a patient in need thereof a 2-alkylidene-19-nor-vitamin D derivative. Particularly, the present invention relates to methods of enhancing peak bone mass in adolescence, the methods comprising administering to a patient in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of 2-methylene-19-nor-20(S)-1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3.
Abstract:
A method and implantable devices for monitoring a disease state in a patient. The method includes providing a monitor for C-reactive protein and implanting the monitor in the patient. At least one molecule binds to the C-reactive protein. A blood concentration of the C-reactive protein is determined based on the binding. A first implantable device includes a housing and a substrate including at least one molecule directed to the C-reactive protein. The first device further includes a detector adapted for measuring binding of the C-reactive protein to the molecule. A second implantable device includes implantable means for monitoring a C-reactive protein and means for binding the C-reactive protein. The second device further includes means for determining a blood concentration of the C-reactive protein based on the binding means.
Abstract:
A steer axle kingpin assembly is provided that eliminates the need for draw keys. The assembly includes A kingpin body that is received within a kingpin bore of a steer axle and extends along a longitudinal axis. The body includes an axially extending bore and a radially extending bore in communication with the axially extending bore. Ball bearings are disposed within the radially extending bore. A lock pin is inserted into the axially extending bore and urges the ball bearings outward into engagement with the kingpin bore of the steer axle.
