    摘要: The invention prolongs the electrode lifetime of plasma machining electrodes having a hafnium or zirconium insert. A hafnium or zirconium insert 21 inserted into the tip of a copper holder 22 protrudes from the tip of the copper holder 22. The protrusion length L is not larger than the diameter D of the insert, preferably not larger than 0.5 mm. The protruding portion 21a of the insert has a rounded section without sharp angles. The rear surface 21 of the insert is exposed to the flow of the cooling water inside the electrode. At least during the generation of the pilot arc, a plasma gas containing at least 5 mol % nitrogen is used.

    摘要: There is provided a method in which a human image including a face of a person is extracted from a color original image at a high probability and an amount of exposure is determined so that the human image is reproduced at the most suitable density. Photographing information is read from a negative film, a color original image is divided, on the basis of the photometric data of the three colors of red, green and blue, into small regions in which color and density are the same for each of pixels on the original image, and characteristic values which indicates characteristics of the small regions are calculated. Subsequently, a small region which is estimated, on the basis of photographing information, to be a background whose size is largely different from the size of a main image, and a small region which is determined to have a low probability of being the main image on the basis of positional information are obtained, and these small regions are eliminated as non-main regions. A small region in a predetermined range of color or density corresponding to the human image is extracted, as an effective region, from other small regions than the eliminated non-main regions. The density of the human image is estimated by using the average luminance in the effective region, and the estimated density is outputted.

    摘要: A plasma arc torch is provided which has a very long electrode lifetime, even if the number of times that an arc is generated and stopped is great. Improper electric discharge can be effectively prevented, and the lifetime can be increased due to the excellent resistance to heat. For this purpose, a metallic layer is provided in the portion where a pilot arc is generated, and the metallic layer contains at least one metal selected from the group consisting of gold and silver. The metallic layer is provided on the surface of the electrode holder, or on both of a surface of the electrode holder and a surface of the nozzle. Further, at least one of the electrode holder and the nozzle can be formed of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, and after the formation, an anodic oxide film can be formed on the surface thereof.

    摘要: A first stop valve (4) is connected in parallel with a serially connected second stop valve (7) and a gas flow regulating means (6) between a supply of working gas and a plasma torch (1). In response to a start signal S.sub.T, the second stop valve (7) is opened so as to supply the working gas at a small flow rate Q.sub.P to the plasma torch (1) via the gas flow regulating means (6).
