Abstract:
A scroll compressor with which there is no leakage of the working gas from the compression chamber is disclosed, in which deformation of each end plate of the fixed scroll and revolving scroll is prevented. The scroll compressor comprises a casing; a fixed scroll provided in the housing and comprising an end plate and a spiral protrusion built on one face of the end plate; and a revolving scroll provided in the casing and comprising an end plate and a spiral protrusion built on one face of the end plate, wherein the spiral protrusions of each scroll are engaged with each other so as to form a spiral compression chamber. In the structure, a working gas introduced in the casing is compressed in the compression chamber and then discharged according to the revolving operation of the revolving scroll; and given thickness T1 of the end plate of the fixed scroll, thickness T2 of the end plate of the revolving scroll, height H1 of the spiral protrusion of the fixed scroll, and height H2 of the spiral protrusion of the revolving scroll, the following condition is satisfied: T1>0.9H1, and T2>0.9H2.
Abstract:
A method for making a composite material for implantation in the body which is able to act as a matrix for the biological ingrowth of bone and is suitable as a bearing surface. The method consists of compression molding the implant by forming to net shape the first material to its desired end device and inserting it into a mold cavity. Polyethylene in is then placed onto the first material, and the mold is subjected to heat and pressure for specific time durations. The end result is polyethylene which is fully interdigitated into the first material to a desired depth which is controlled by temperature, pressure and time constraints. The present method creates an interface between the first material and the polyethylene which is securely fixed and does not allow micro and macro motion between the two materials. The compression molding process optimizes the mechanical and wear properties of the polyethylene, and enables the new material to provide a smooth and frictionless bearing surface on one side of the composite material. The opposite side of the composite material is porous and thus allows for biological ingrowth of new bone or cement interdigitation. The first material provides structural stability, yet allows flexibility and load transfer to improve biological interface characteristics and a more normal bony remodeling that are lacking in other acetabular cups. An acetabular cup constructed with the composite material is also disclosed.

Abstract:
An image forming apparatus which can adjust a density comprises: a first input device to input image information; a second input device to input the kind of image information; an image forming circuit such as a printer form an image on the basis of image information which can vary an image forming density; and a density adjusting circuit to adjust the image forming density of the image forming circuit in accordance with the kind of input image information. The second input device inputs a signal indicative of whether the input image information indicates a text image or a graphics image or whether it denotes Japanese or European/English language. The second input device inputs a signal indicative of the kind of font included in the input image information or a signal indicative of a resolution of an output image which is formed by the printer.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus includes a feeder means and a recorder. The feeder feeds a sheet of recording paper to a predetermined position in response to a spare paper feed signal instructing the feeding as the sheet of recording paper to the predetermined position preliminarily, and then feeds the sheet of recording paper being stopped at the predetermined position again in response to a record request signal. The recorder records an image on the sheet of recording paper fed by the feeder means through an electrophotographic process. The recorder means starts preparation to execute the electrophotographic process upon receiving the spare paper feed signal. As a results, throughput is increased without causing other problems.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus which has an image signal generator for generating an image signal, an image forming unit for forming an image on a recording medium based on the generated image signal, a feeding unit for feeding the medium to the image forming unit, and a controller for outputting different commands to the image forming unit to control the image forming unit. The feeding unit performs spare paper feeding of the medium to a predetermined position before the generator is set in an image signal output enable state and feeds the medium from the predetermined position to the image forming unit after the generator is set in the image signal output enable state. The image forming unit validates a specific command of the different commands when the specific command is received during at least a spare paper feed period from start of spare paper feeding of the recording medium to start of paper feeding from the predetermined position, thereby maximizing the function of the image forming apparatus.
Abstract:
A piezoelectric ink jet print head including a common laminar piezoelectric element disposed for activating two or mor ink jetting devices each of which has an ink chamber for ejecting a droplet of ink. The laminar piezoelectric element consists of a plurality of piezoelectric ceramic layers and a plurality of electrode layers which are alternately laminated on each other. Each piezoelectric ceramic layer is polarized in a polarizing direction perpendicular to the direction of lamination of the piezoelectric ceramic and electrode layers. A voltage is applied selectively to the electrode layers for displacing at least one of the piezoelectric ceramic layers in the polarizing direction, so as to change the volume of the ink chamber of a selected one of the ink jetting devices. The electrode layers is formed of a thermistor which has a Curie point lower than that of the piezoelectric ceramic layers and which has a positive temperature coefficient of resistance so that the thermistor is an electrically insulating material at a temperature above the Curie point thereof.
Abstract:
An accurately controllable two-stage pump assembly comprising two plunger pumps connected in series. The suction port of the outlet pump A is connected to the discharge port of the inlet pump B, so that the discharge port of the outlet pump A and the suction port of the inlet pump B act as the discharge port and the suction port, respectively, of the whole pump assembly. While the inlet pump B is delivering fluid from the whole pump assembly, the outlet pump A completes the filling stroke of the whole pump assembly and fully increases the pressure inside the chamber of the outlet pump A. While the inlet pump B is filling, the outlet pump A is in the stage of displacement stroke and delivers fluid from the whole pump assembly. The plungers of the pumps are moved via cams by stepper motors which swing or rotate back and forth within a certain angular range.
