Carbazole compounds of formula (I) are disclosed, which are useful as photoconductors for electrophotography and fluorescent brightening agent in the field of paints, ##STR1## wherein R represents a C.sub.2.about.4 alkyl group, or a benzyl group; X.sup.1 represents hydrogen, a C.sub.1.about.4 alkyl group, a C.sub.1.about.4 alkoxyl group, a halogen atom, a nitro group, an amino group, a C.sub.1.about.4 alkylamino group or a benzylamino group; and n is an integer 1 or 2. A method of preparing a carbazole compound of formula (II) is also disclosed, in which a phenyl derivative of formula (III) is caused to react with an aldehyde of formula (IV), ##STR2## wherein R represents a C.sub.2.about.4 alkyl group, or a benzyl group; X.sup.2 represents hydrogen, a C.sub.1.about.4 alkyl group, a C.sub.1.about.4 alkoxyl group, a halogen atom, a nitro group; and m is an integer 0 or 1; ##STR3## wherein X.sup.2 represents the same as in the formula (II) and Y represents a triphenylphosphonium group of the formula ##STR4## wherein Z.sup..crclbar. represents a halogen ion, or Y represents a dialkylphosphonate group of the formula--PO(OR').sup.2wherein R' represents a C.sub.1.about.4 alkyl group; ##STR5## wherein R represents the same as in the formula (III).

The problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide a highly-versatile method for producing a nitroxyl radical derivative, in which position-2 and position-6 in a TEMPO-based compound can be easily substituted, and further, a method for producing a nitroxyl radical derivative, in which a nitrogen nucleus is labeled with 15N. The above-described problem can be solved by reacting a triacetoneamine derivative with ketone or aldehyde in the presence of ammonium salt or a 15N-labeled compound thereof to obtain a 2,6-substituted-4-piperidone derivative.

An image encoding and transmitting system is an image transmission system for transmitting digital data such as TV telephones. The system for dividing input frame data into a plurality of blocks before transmitting them comprises on its sending side an intra-frame/inter-frame determiner for receiving intra-frame data and inter-frame data and selecting either of them for output, and a difference collator for having the intra-frame/inter-frame determiner compulsorily output intra-frame data at the time of data input for the next frame when one or more data in each block forming inter-frame data are larger than a predetermined threshold. The system also comprises on its receiving side an picture element domain frame data storage for storing received data in the picture element domain, and a motion vector detector for detecting according to the contents in the storage a motion vector using the data in the block surrounding the discarded block in order to guess the data in the discarded block.
