A handheld work apparatus has an internal combustion engine (9, 9′, 9″) and a starter device (8). The internal combustion engine has a piston (10, 10″) which has at least one piston ring (37, 38). In order to avoid a delay when starting the engine, at least one recess is provided in the cylinder bore (26) which bridges the at least one piston ring (37, 38) in at least one position of the piston (10, 10′) and which has a distance (n, o, p) to all function openings of the engine (9, 9′, 9″) configured in the cylinder bore (26). To reduce the compression in the combustion chamber (25), the piston (10′) has only one piston ring (37) or two piston rings (37, 38) are provided having respective piston ring gaps (39, 40) defining an angle (β) which is up to approximately 45°.

The present invention relates to a tooth cleaning bristle, which is configured as a monofilament and has a outer surface having a contour that is structured preferably in the shape of a longitudinal flute and that has projections and depressions, alternating in the peripheral direction. The invention further relates to a toothbrush head having a bristle holder to which at least one such tooth cleaning bristle is fastened, and finally to a preferably electric toothbrush having such a toothbrush head.

An occupant-protection system for vehicles, including: at least one sensor, which detects the surrounding area of the vehicle and generates sensor signals therefrom; an evaluation device, which analyzes the sensor signals, detects an approaching hazardous situation in advance according to an algorithm for the early detection of a hazardous situation and generates a trigger signal in this case; a seat-adjustment device having at least one actuator for adjusting a seat, the seat-adjustment device having a first speed for a comfort adjustment of the seat and a second, higher speed for the seating adjustment of the seat in response to triggering by the trigger signal. Also provided is a method for activating an occupant-protection system for vehicles.

An apparatus for detecting a rollover event, which includes at least one acceleration sensor in the vertical direction of the vehicle and one acceleration sensor in the horizontal direction of the vehicle. A processor of the apparatus according to the invention will start a rollover algorithm in response to an inertial event, in order, as a function of the signal of the acceleration sensor in the vertical direction to detect the rollover event and as a function of it to trip restraint devices.

An improved passenger protection is achieved by refining the criterion for triggering the restraining unit provided for impact situations. A system and a method for generating a triggering signal for the restraining unit in a vehicle are provided for this purpose, the restraining unit being provided for the event of a collision of the vehicle—head-on collision, side impact. The system includes a unit for detecting an impact, which, in the event of an impact, generates a request signal for the restraining unit corresponding to the type of impact, and a unit for detecting a rotational motion of the vehicle about at least one vehicle axis—longitudinal axis (x) and/or transverse axis (y)—which generate a corresponding status signal. A circuit is provided for generating a triggering signal, the circuit combining the request signal and the status signal so that the information about the possible occurrence or the existence of a rotational motion is taken into account in the decision about triggering the restraining means.

A power supply for an electrical appliance has a female connector for an electrical plug, in which case the power supply can be removed from the electrical appliance for installation or servicing purposes. In order to prevent electrical connection of the power supply when it is in the removed state, the power supply is provided with an insertion protection device, which prevents insertion of the electrical plug when the power supply is in the removed state.
